Image consultant and lifestyle stylist, Christopher Macken answers those tough questions and provides a witty and refreshing look at planning your perfect day.
As many of you are familiar, for the past two years I have been the “go to” for many brides and some grooms when it pertains to those difficult wedding situations that require a little expert advice in my Q&A column, “Ask M Famous”. Though that was a fun and exciting column to write, DIY Weddings Magazine felt that to celebrate the start of my third year as a contributor, we would try a new column, “M Famous Wedding tips” where I will give a few ideas, ranging from the popular colors to creative insights that will set your big day a part.

For those of you that have read my column in the past, you know that I am a huge proponent of making your special day just that, YOUR day! So many times I have seen brides plan their wedding with all the lavish trimmings to be a show stopping performance and somewhere in the midst of the pomp and circumstance, the little personal details that show who the happy couple truly are go missing. I love a wedding that has interesting little twists that gives us insights to what you and your partner are all about. With that being said I would like to give you 3 of my favorite ideas that can help you “Monogram Your Marriage”.

Plan Your Pallet… When you are thinking through the colors for your big day I agree that you should take into consideration what the fashionable colors are for that season and time, however do not allow these “IT COLORS” to define your ultimate decision. Your color choice is a direct reflection of you. If you are a bright and bubbly person that has a happy
and chipper disposition then perhaps a light blue accent, a pale pink or yellow is a great way to allow your “peppy” persona to shine through. In this case those colors are very popular this season and we can expect them to carry all the way through to mid fall. In my case, I like earth tones, metallics, and royal deep rich colors and will agree that those tones are certainly a reflection of me. I could go on but I think I have made my “Pallet Point”.
Don’t Be Selfish… Let’s face it, we all know someone or a few people that really don’t NEED anything. Those people that when shopping for them you think, “How can I buy for someone who has everything”? If you find that you and your bride or groom to be have all of the things that you need and the thought of registering for more presents sounds daunting, then let
me suggest a fun and unexpected wedding idea that I came across at a friend’s wedding. As everyone was seated, a card on the chair awaited them with a ribbon for them to pin to their lapel. The card, beautifully printed, shared why this particular charity was so important to the couple and an attached envelope offered the opportunity for everyone to make a donation instead of a gift. I have thought about at my wedding (one day) doing this and supporting my favorite anti bullying organization. This shows everyone how deeply you both care about a specific cause.
