Do It For Less! Experts | WEDDING ADVICE

Setting A Pretty Table

Napkins seem like a small detail but they can make a big difference. Beautifully folded napkins invite your guests to share in the spirit of your wedding, whether your theme is elegant or casual, fun or romantic, retro-funky or up-to-the-minute chic. Whatever your theme, a napkin can add color and interest, becoming part of the table décor and even taking the place of expensive flower arrangements.

STEP-BY-STEP NAPKIN FOLDS

For very small events of 12 or fewer guests, consider purchasing cloth napkins. Cotton or cotton-poly blends are the best choices as they are substantial enough to hold a nice fold and are easy to clean. Keep an eye out for department store white sales or check out large discounters like Anna’s Linens, TJ Maxx HomeGoods, Marshalls, or Ross. It’s best to go with white or ivory if you are buying them months ahead of time as your décor plans may change.

For larger parties, renting napkins from your local party rental store is a more cost-effective option. They’ll have a nice selection of colors to choose from. Check several party suppliers to see what colors they have in stock as these are less expensive than spe- cial order colors. Arrange to pick up the napkins a couple of days before your event so you can fold them ahead of time.

This is Part II of a three part series that we will be featuring in our next two issues. See Part I in our Spring 2013 issue. Part II. Heart

The Heart fold takes a little more time but can be done as far in advance as you like, then stacked and put aside until you need them. After folding, spray lightly with a little spray starch and iron to keep the edges flat.

This fold is elegant in white or ivory brocade or fun in pink or magenta. Lavender, peach, light yellow or green will work too; use whatever works best with with your décor.

Make place cards from heart-shaped paper and metallic gold ink and slip them between the top folds. Or write guests’ names in metallic gold ink on the end of a ribbon that’s tied onto a fluffy white feather and tucked into the center of the heart.
