FUNDRAISING: 2012 EVENTS

The Toy Trust set a target for 2012 to raise £300k and hence break the £3 million mark for total funds accumulated since the charity’s inception in 1990.

The Trust is delighted to announce that this goal was achieved largely thanks to the heroic efforts of Andrew Brown in his record breaking solo transatlantic row and the 135 brave souls who conquered the ‘Three Peaks Challenge’ last July, as well as the generous contributions of others through various fundraising activities.

The ‘Three Peaks Challenge’ BTHA Golf Day

The annual Golf Day took place on the 14th June once again at the Sonning Golf Club, Berkshire. Thanks to all participants who helped to raise a total of £1200 on the day and special thanks to Clive Jones who organised the whole event. ‘ Money Can’t Buy’

The inaugural Toy Trust Three Peaks Challenge was successfully completed within 24 hours by 135 intrepid walkers and 14 heroic drivers in early July despite awful rain, winds, traffic delays and midge bites! The three mountains – Snowdon, Scafell Pike and

Ben Nevis- with a combined height of over 10,000 feet were climbed in atrocious weather conditions that made the achievement even more impressive, raising over £130k for the designated charity recipient Medic Malawi. “It was a truly amazing achievement by everyone.

The weather was very unkind to us but we all dug deep and got the job done. Team spirit was fantastic,

new friends were made and we are all thrilled with the money we have so far raised,” stated Nick Austin, Toy Trust Chair and Event Organiser. “We can all be very proud of our personal and team achievements this weekend and to know that we have positively changed forever the lives of 50 orphaned children in Malawi and knowing we have contributed to giving them a home, education, and future is a very fitting testament to everyone’s efforts.” The efforts of the team were also recognised live on

Radio 5 during the Federer v Murray Wimbledon final with the commentators giving the Toy Trust Three Peaks Challenge and the Malawi orphanage project a name-check to millions of listeners.

Andrew Brown’s Atlantic Challenge

Andrew’s incredible world record breaking solo transatlantic row last December has been well documented over the past year and rightly so. His incredible feat of courage, strength and endurance in covering just shy of 3000 miles quicker than any one-man boat has ever achieved has enabled him to raise £116k thus far for the Toy Trust and deservedly received several awards and accolades for his extraordinary efforts. Andrew draws on his experiences and offers his services as a speaker at events. For further info please contact Andrew@rowtheatlantic.com
