arch 2012 marked the culmination of the 53rd Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition with the

White & Case International Rounds. A big con- gratulations to all the teams that participated in the Jessup Competition this year and a special thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers, judges and other organizations which contributed to mak- ing the competition possible.

The Jessup issue of the ILSA Quarterly contains competition results and a summary of the events, along with articles focused on the issues involved in the 2012 Jessup Compromis. Of note, this issue also highlights the career path of a former Jessup participant, Mai Phan, and the lasting impact of her Jessup experience (interview on p. 76).

About ILSA and the ILSA Quarterly

The International Law Students Association (ILSA) is a non-profit association of students and lawyers who are dedicated to the promotion of international law. ILSA provides students with opportunities to study, research, and network in the international legal arena. The organization’s activities include academic conferences, publications, the global coordination of student organizations, and the administration of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. ILSA seeks to encourage communication and cooperation among students and lawyers internationally; to contribute to legal education; to promote social responsibility in the field of law; to increase op- portunities for students to learn about other cultures and legal systems worldwide; and to publicize educational and career opportunities in international law. If you have any questions about ILSA or its programs, please contact the ILSA Executive Office at ilsa@ilsa.org.

The ILSA Quarterly is an academic magazine that features articles written by students, scholars and practitioners concerning timely issues of international law and related topics, as well as information on ILSA projects, study abroad programs, LL.M. programs and career opportunities in the field of international law. It is published four times during the academic year.
