www.swimmingpoolnews.co.uk SWISS ALPS LOCATION FOR WOODEN HOT TUB FROM RIVIERA

The sensational setting of Verbier in the Swiss Alps seemed perfect for a quality cedar wood hot tub. And the glamorous location proved ideal for the Riviera Hot Tubs seven foot spa fitted into a luxury Swiss ski chalet.

LOCATION THE KEY FOR HARRIS POOLS DOUBLE WINNING POOL AND SPA

A sensational award winning home overlooking the River Dart at Kingswear provided the location for a double success story for Harris Pools & Leisure. The Torquay based specialist company took two awards – a BISHTA winning award in the category of hot tubs costing between £5,000 and £10,000 and a silver medal for residential concrete outdoor pools costing £60,000 and over.

Harris Pools boss Mike Harris said: “The location was everything really for us. The house is less than five years old and won lots of awards for its architecture and building and we put in the pool and the hot tub both of which needed to fit in the unique look of the building.” The theme of pool and hot tub was that everything needed to be round to fit in with the style and look of the property. The winning hot tub was a Beachcomber 320X with specially designed circular decking.

“It really is a great site and it helped so much that we have worked with the architect and the builder before so the relationships were great. I guess we would have preferred it if the style was simpler especially the pool but the architect was adamant about the shape and he won the day.” The BISHTA judges agreed: “The spa exerts the feel of this house in the country, boasting a modern design but in keeping with a traditional feel. The views are fabulous!”

Since Harris Pools was launched in 1983, the business has worked on hundreds of projects from small outdoor hot tubs to large commercial award- winning indoor pools. It has become used to winning gold awards with SPATA including previous Pool of the Year winners and liner pool gold winners. The runner-up in this category was Riviera Hot Tubs.

The stylish tub seats eight and the installation won Devon based Riviera the BISHTA award winning for the hot tub above £10,000 category. Fitting the tub was a challenge in itself. The weather was difficult and time was pushed as the tub was due before the ski season. Riviera Hot Tubs took that challenge and built the luxurious tub which is now used as an image to advertise the Swiss ski chalet.

Riviera’s Sarah Rathbone said: “We have been fortunate enough to supply a number of hot tubs

for English customers of ours in France. We now have someone who installs them for us but this was always going to be a very picturesque spa installation.” Riviera is a previous BISHTA winner and has been entering since their inception in 2006.

FALCON GETS TO GRIP WITH LUXURY SPA

provided lots of challenges when it came to the luxury top of the range spa installation. The spa won the BISHTA award for the best UK installation costing over £10,000. The hot tub was part of a luxury installation complex which included a steam room and provided special problems in terms of being able to gain access underneath the hot tub.

How many hot tubs can you actually walk underneath? The unique structure of the property which faced Surrey based Falcon Pools

The judges said the Falcon Pools spa was “built to the client’s specification, installed flush with the ground. There is good access for maintenance and some of the equipment was raised after the client’s request to have the CD player above the hot tub”.

REPLACING OLD WITH NEW WINS SOUTHERN SPAS AWARD

The BISHTA award winning pool for Southern Spas and Saunas was especially significant as it came from a customer of 10 years standing. Said Paul Maguire from Southern Spas: “The spa was an Elite Sunlighter 2011 model in satin black with a grey surround. They have been my clients since Aug 2002 when we delivered their first tub which was a Southern Spas Spa Rondo. They decided to have the first one in-ground directly under where this one sits, they did all the groundwork back then and we put the tub in next to the pool. Nine years on they were faced with a normal repair bill when I mentioned that we offer a part exchange service or they could modernise the spa and benefit from cheaper running costs, built in chemical dosing with the spa frog and a five year plumbing and electric no quibble warranty, with a longer warranty covering the shell and structure of the spa. This they opted for along with the fact that I mentioned the lovely view they would have when bathing if they lifted the tub and had it on ground level.

The installation in Somerset won the BISHTA award for the winning Residential Hot Tub valued at below £5,000. Southern Spas also took the

runner up award for best swim spa / exercise pool with an Elite Eco Swim 2010 model. Added Paul: “It’s the second year we’ve entered the awards, the first time was to celebrate 10 years of BISHTA which is when we scooped a hat-trick of awards. We were delighted to pick up two more awards this year, we only entered three installations as we were running out of time to get the entries in. Overall BISHTA had a lot more entries this year than last so we must have done something right. Attention to detail is the key along with giving options to the client.”

The runner up in this category was Complete Spas from Worcestershire.
