FLEXFLOORING MANAGE THE DIFFICULT SURFACES

CHARITY CHANNEL SWIMMER ‘WARMS UP’ AT SPATEX 2012

Much-admired actor Jamie Kenna, best known for his roles in films such as Green Street, Children of Men and The Bank Job, plans to swim the English Channel in July to raise funds for chosen charities.

SPATEX gave Brighton based Jamie the opportunity to notch up extra training sessions by swimming against the power jets in the swim spas of exhibitor’s Elite Spas and Catalina Spas.

“Ever since I was a boy, I’ve been fascinated and awed by the thought of swimming the Channel, so I have to try. The fact that I am at the same time, hopefully, going to be raising a decent amount of

money for charity, fuels my determination.”

Fund raising events such as auctions will be run during the ticket only gala evening, which will take place at a well-known venue. Industry public relations specialists Talk2PR are the first in the UK wet leisure industry to offer support and are hoping that they will be joined by other companies who recognise not only the value of promotion through sponsorship, but more importantly the vital need of fund raising for worthy causes.

Safety flooring experts Flexflooring pride themselves on installing smooth, seamless and ultimately level surfaces. However, some projects have a completely different remit and a recent water play installation for SSP Water & Play required an undulating surface incorporating three separate water channels. Luckily, irregular and curved surfaces pose no problem for thier Rubbaflex safety surface, which can be hand trowelled by their team of experienced installers both horizontally and vertically over any shaped object whilst maintaining a smooth, seam free finish.

The brief for SSP Water & Play was to refurbish a tired, old paddling pool, adding new interactive features and water play tables. In order to help create the look of the seaside required, Flexflooring installed two separate colour mixes

utilising bright blue for the water and a mix of beige and eggshell for the beach. The flexibility of their safety surface meant it could be easily installed around the rocks and wet play equipment. The overall result is an effective and eye- catching design.

Steve Newland of SSP Water & Play added: “The surface looks great! We have worked with Flexflooring on a number of projects and we know they offer the right product for the job. It is not only safe, but colourful too. The finished installation totally rejuvenated an old paddling pool and local parents and children are thrilled with the new wet play area.”

pond/pool fittings for over 49 years so is somewhat of an expert. The company’s range features everything from pumps, filters, liners, pipes and fittings for both domestic and commercial applications.

A unique Chameleon Powered Floor System was the answer when architect Harry Calder was planning the design of a house in Knutsford. He was able to create two rooms in one, thanks to the innovative powered floor system. Not that he was short of available space, but a room housing a 5m x 3.6m pool was a sizeable area and just perfect for entertaining. There was just one snag – how to cover the pool with a surface sturdy enough to withstand a room full of people.

Totally unique, the floor system slides out on silent rollers at the touch of a button to cover the pool seamlessly with existing décor and flooring and when not in use, the powered floor simply slides back onto a sub-floor which can be constructed either under the house or garden. The Manchester based architect, whose firm Calder Peel has offices in Altrincham and London, is full of praise for the flexibility and functionality of the Chameleon powered floor system. Indeed he has recently been involved in two

specified by the owners.

He said: “Chameleon offers the ultimate flexibility to create space in the pool room whether the use be for a dance floor, conference or simply a big party room.”

Harry Calder quoted a large project currently under construction where the pool room can be used as a leisure suite and gym and swiftly converted once a month into a boardroom for major presentations seating up to 40 directors and senior managers.

Large houses such as this of around 12,500 square feet can comfortably accommodate an internal pool room which can be converted through the Chameleon System for not only business meetings but a large dining room seating up to 80 people. He added: “The customer is buying the Chameleon for reasons of practicality and flexibility. It creates an extra room but offers a number of options that take it beyond simply being a pool cover.”

Manufactured by the Cartwright Group, a company which has half a century’s experience in engineering, the powered floor also cuts pool heating costs by up to 60%, reducing a home’s carbon footprint.
