Pure+ Oxygen system. It’s arrival came as a direct plea of many swimmers looking for an alternative to traditional chlorine or bromine based solutions. Although not fully chlorine free, the Pure+ Oxygen system operates at a similar level to tap water. This eliminates all the problems associated with the chemical in both the pool water and at the pool side when handling the chemicals. Within the specially designed mixing chamber, a low voltage electrical charge is passed between copper and titanium plates to produce copper ions and active oxygen respectively.
ALLERGY ISSUES DRIVES ECO-POOL TRENDS
The trend for eco-pools began in the 80s, but has only just really taken off in the last few years.
Concerns about the effects of chlorine levels on a range of allergies remains one of the biggest factors in the increasing consumer interest in them.
“Eco-pools are one of the fastest rising trends in swimming pool design today,” said Brian Andrews, Managing Director of Heritage Pools, who design and build commercial and private pools throughout the UK and Europe. Eco-pools are constructed in a similar way to conventional pools, but have specific requirements to maintain their self-sustaining, self-cleaning capabilities without the use of chemicals such as chlorine.
“When designing an Eco-pool, we would ensure that the pool is split into two areas – a deep area for swimming and a shallow area called the ’regeneration zone’ for the special aquatic plants’. This zone is filled with a permeable substrate to encourage friendly micro-organisms to aid in filtration alongside a specially selected array of plants,” said Andrews.
When completed, Eco-pools have the benefits of looking like natural water gardens yet are completely safe for
Aligator sales growth in 2011 has been due to a wide range of pool users who have finally had enough of skin rashes, asthma, red eyes, itchy skin all caused by a reaction to chemicals used in the swimming pool chlorine, bromine and salt. The Aligator Ionisation System will reduce chemical usage by up to 80% and the company claims pool users are now looking for an alternative that will be friendlier to allergy sufferers. The company has testimonials from pool users saying how delighted they are with the
swimming. They look beautiful year round, benefit from natural (or assisted) solar heating, are a unique feature in gardens and can add real value to a house as a biologically balanced family entertainment centre. The only thing you will need to add is a skimming system to remove fallen debris and perhaps a pump to encourage water flow, but other than that you can simply relax and enjoy nature.
“During the year, the pool will change which can add to the beauty of ownership. During spring, owners shouldn’t be alarmed to see algae form in the pond as this is natural, but give the water flora a chance and this changes quickly as the weather warms up,” said Andrews. One feature is a no-no, as far as Andrews is concerned though. “Plants are perfect for this, as are some animals, but don’t be tempted to put goldfish in your pool. Whilst they’ll look pretty and keep out of your way when swimming, they’ll churn mud from the bottom and pollute the water, which is something we really don’t want.”

performance of the Aligator and that the children have no further problems.
The natural elements of silver, copper and zinc in the system reduce the chlorine related skin rashes, sore eyes, asthma and bleached hair.

In basic terms the copper ions are released into the water then act as a natural biocide for any algae growth that may occur, whilst the super oxygenated water destroys harmful bacteria. Pure+ Oxygen has proved itself in a growing number of pools. Developing on the success of this product the company has developed Pure+Heat for economical pool water heating and Pure+Test to ensure chemical balance with swimming pools.
POOLCURE SYSTEM OFFERS CHLORINE CONTROL
The Poolcure system enables commercial pool operators to win the battle to control combined chlorine levels in their pools. These compounds are produced when the disinfecting free chlorine reacts with the ammonia-based pollutants that bathers bring into the pool. They are driven into the atmosphere and cause breathing and eye discomfort to bathers and staff. There are indications of a link between the chlorinous pool atmospheres and asthma in children. This acidic content also damages building structures, sometimes with serious results. Various processes, including ozone and UV, have been introduced to destroy them but are only partially effective and are costly to install and maintain. Further, they do not attack the problem at source. Chemical engineers, like those at Total Pool Chemicals, look primarily at the chemistry of a process, and it was from this angle that the Poolcure system was developed and patented. spn
