The traditional

Barrel Sauna available in the UK through Elite Hot Tubs

Space is rarely an issue when planning to install a sauna room and Dröm have designed saunas to fit in alcoves, loft spaces and some very unusual shapes. Client imagination is the only limitation to their creativity!

The interior will always be in timber, using alder, aspen, beech, spruce or pine, depending upon taste and budget, and the exterior can be as modern or traditional as the rest of the surroundings. For example, frameless glass doors are extremely popular now and give a great feeling of space.

Dröm UK can add a number of accessories to make the experience even more special, from loudspeakers to enjoy favourite music to mood lighting and of course aromatic oils to invigorate or relax.

Don’t forget that individual spaces need individual solutions and Dröm UK has the expertise to design and install your customer’s dream sauna room. After all, Dröm is the Swedish word for dream.

ROLLING OUT THE MAINTENANCE FREE BARREL

Elite Hot Tubs are authorised UK agents for the truly unique Original Barrel Sauna that can be used indoors or outdoors and offers the perfect addition to any outside area particularly for those who are looking for a very natural and rustic effect. Barrel Saunas are built using western red cedar that offers strength, stability, and long lasting beauty. It also offers a natural resistance to insect and decay damage. Due to its unique shape, the barrel saunas are energy efficient and virtually maintenance free. The front and back ends are shipped completely pre-assembled and the door is pre-hung. The Barrel Sauna can be easily assembled within hours and comes with a five year parts and labour warranty.

INFRARED RELIEF

The infrared sauna has grown in status over the years with some health experts stating that

infrared is in certain cases more beneficial to the bather. Infrared radiates heat that is absorbed directly into the body rather than the more traditional methods using steam or warm air. Infrared is more like sunbathing than steam bathing and is said to be extremely good at relieving arthritic-type conditions. The Canadian Spa Company offers a wide variety of infrared saunas to suit specific therapeutic needs and space requirements. Customers can choose which sauna best suits their individual lifestyle. The Canadian Spa Company sauna delivers the most advanced therapy available; flat, carbon fibre elements with three year warranties, kiln dried timbers, frameless glass doors and a premium integrated stereo make Canadian Spa Company saunas a great choice for your customer’s home and lifestyle. The premium ‘carbon’ range offers contemporary design and features the latest in flat carbon elements, offering an even and gentle infrared heat distribution.

TYPICALLY TYLÖ

Swedish manufacturer Tylö has taken the brief continually to evolve its range of sauna cabins quite literally, with the launch earlier this year of its ‘Evolve’ collection to replace the company’s existing conventional ‘Classic’ saunas for people who prefer traditional sauna bathing. Combining thermally insulated wall and ceiling panels in pine, with the option of glazed wall sections and door, along with blonde aspen benches and fittings, the ‘Evolve’ is available in 17 different shapes and sizes, from a two-person to 10-person cabins.

Evolution has also taken place with the Tylö Impression ‘Home Spa’ sauna-steam range, with the introduction of a stylish electronic ‘h1’ touch- screen panel, allowing bathers to pre-set the maximum temperature and lighting level within the unit, as well as showing the real-time steam room temperature and in-operation time mode. At the same time the previous overhead

shower has been replaced by a new larger ceiling- mounted shower head, fed by a thermostatically controlled mixer tap, which also feeds a separate hand shower.

The trend towards creating ‘wet rooms’ provides opportunities for architects and interior designers to add real ‘value-added’ benefits, by incorporating a steam room within a wet room using the newly introduced Tylö ‘tx202/w’ steam- shower, combined with a roof dome and a glazed door and/or wall sections.

A custom often found in Finnish sauna culture, and one I think many UK pool and spa companies would be happy to emulate is to have a beer afterwards. What is also said to be a perfect exercise after a sauna or steam is to whip the bathers with bendy birch tree branches to increase the flow of circulation. On reflection, I think I’ll stick with the beer! spn
