El Hotel Spa Matilda, es un oasis de más de un kilometro cuadrado con cuatro salas de tratamiento, un Hammam privado (baño turco), dos suites para parejas, salas internas y externas; todo en un ambi- ente fino, moderno y elegante. La directora del Spa, Margarita Valderrama, carismática y profesional, experta en su ramo, se llena de orgullo al presumirnos este oasis, estilo Nueva York, en San Miguel de Allende, en medio del alto desierto mexicano.


Margarita, acupunturista y homeópata, entrenada en el famoso Instituto Chopra, (fundado por el guru en beinestar Deepak Chopra) hace uso de sus conocimientos dirigiendo no solo el Spa del Hotel Matilda, pero también el nuevo Spa en Vivo, nuevo destino de spa holístico del Hotel Matilda, a unos pocos kilómetros de San Miguel. En el Spa en Vivo, Margarita combina hidroterapia, masaje watsu, un temascal típico de la región y sus conocimientos como experta instructora en Qi Gong, creando un destino de bienestar bajo el cielo abierto, rodeado de hierbas, plantas y aromaterapia.


Al llegar al Spa del Hotel Matilda, cada huésped recibe una toallita húmeda en una infusión de lavanda y una rosa blanca perfecta y simple, simbolizando inocencia, pureza y amor. Una bebida verde hecha de productos locales, nopales, toronja, piña y apio, que desintoxica el cuerpo antes de disfrutar el tratamiento único en México: Hammam. Este tratamiento comienza con una exfoliación del cuerpo, utilizando una mezcla de aceites esenciales estimulantes, seguido de un baño de vapor en un lujoso sofá en donde uno se frota de pies a cabeza.


El Spa Matilda, utiliza ingredientes nativos de México, Un tratamiento de envoltura corporal (body wrap) en vainilla, lavanda y miel; Un exfoliante de café y vainilla, un body wrap de nopal, que penetra hasta el núcleo de las células para incrementar la longevidad celular.


El excelente entrenamiento del personal es muy notorio, como dice Margarita “Creo que el ingredi- ente más importante de mi spa es mi personal. Mis terapeutas están bien entrenados, la mayoría de ellos los entreno personalmente aquí en Matilda y previamente en Cabo San Lucas. Spa Matilda A Spa Experience


Outside it might be 19th century colonial Mex- ico, but when you walk inside the slate green lobby of the Hotel Matilda, you’ll know you’re in the 21st century. The hotel is stylish, trendy, and very modern and the spa downstairs con- tinues the hip minimalistic style of the hotel.


The Spa at Hotel Matilda is a 4700-sq. foot haven with 4 treatment rooms, a private ham- mam (Turkish wet bath), two couple’s suites, and indoor and outdoor lounges, all with a sleek upscale and modern ambience. The spa is led by the super-knowledgeable and charm- ing Spa Director Margarita Valderrama, who beams with pride as she shows off this New York-style oasis in San Miguel de Allende, in the middle of Mexico’s high desert.


Drawing on the extensive wealth of knowledge she acquired studying at the world-famous Chopra Institute (founded by wellness guru Deepak Chopra), Margarita, an acupuncturist as well as a homeopath, oversees not only the Spa at Hotel Matilda, but also the new Spa en Vivo, Hotel Matilda’s holistic destination spa a few miles outside of San Miguel. At Spa en Vivo, Margarita combines hydrotherapy, Watsu massage, an indigenous Temascal, and her expertise as a Qi Gong instructor, to create a wellness destination under the open sky sur- rounded by herbs, aromatherapy and plants.


Upon check-in at the chic Spa at Hotel Matil- da, each guest is handed a cool towel infused with lavender and one single perfect white rose, symbolizing innocence, purity and love. A green drink made from local products – no- pales, grapefruit, pineapple, and celery - de- toxifies the body prior to indulging in Mexico’s only Hamman treatment. This Middle-Eastern inspired self treatment begins with exfoliation of the body using a mixture of stimulating es- sential oils. This is followed by a hot steam shower on a luxurious couch on which you scrub yourself from head to toe.


The Spa at Matilda uses the indigenous ingre- dients native to Mexico – A Vanilla, Lavender and Honey body wrap; a Café Latte exfoliation with coffee and vanilla; a Nopal body wrap that penetrates deep into the nucleus of cells to in- crease the body’s cellular longevity.


The excellent training of the staff is very ap- parent. As Margarita says, “I believe the most important ingredient in my spa is my staff. My therapists are well trained, most of them by me here at Matilda and previously in Cabo San Lucas. As a team, we hold hands, meditate, pray and offer our job of the day to the Uni- verse. We cannot give love if we don’t have it inside. I am in love with this place.”
