Develop your Spa Management Skills with UCIrvine


I’m truly a marketing addict and have been for years.


I constantly analyze TV commercials


and magazine ads for brand positioning, product placement, font, color … everything. As well, I have been a faithful spa guest for many years. As the Marketing Director for a beautiful mountain resort, I had the pleasure of marketing their resort spa.


The more I


worked with the Spa Director, the more my energy and excitement came forth for her job.


I loved connecting with her about her


team, her revenue, how we could better connect the spa brand to the local guests and the resort guests. Much to my chagrin, she was offered another position at a renowned spa across the country … and I interviewed my way into her vacant Spa Director job. My marketing skills and experience aided me in securing that Director position in Park City and now currently, as the Spa Director for Spa Gaucin at the St. Regis Monarch Beach in Orange County, CA. As well, I have the pleasure of instructing for the University of California


The Introduction to Spa Operations course is a nine-week overview of the many facets of running a spa business. We Spa Directors realize that nine weeks is merely a dip in the water of this multi-faceted business, but we have created a targeted program, which has proved enlightening for the students. Each week entails a lesson to be viewed, an assignment to be completed, and a forum discussion. The lessons are not easy and do require a fair amount research, time, and thought. They are designed to build upon one another each week. In essence, a brick is laid each week in building the foundation of that students’ spa concept and operation. The forums are the “classroom” discussion area.
