The Sound of your Spa

“I just love that music I heard during my massage, who was it and where can I buy it?”

If variety is the spice of life then a variety of music can surely be one of the keys to a successful spa operation. Have you ever seen a television comedy without the laugh track or watched a movie without a good soundtrack? Pretty boring I’ll tell you. So when your guests come to your first class spa, they want to be enchanted, relaxed and invigorated with sounds that transport them away. This puts a lot of pressure on a spa director trying to create the perfect audio-visual environment.

Playing the right music in your lobby area when guests first arrive sets the tone for their entire experience and, if done right, you’ll have that guest repeat their visit many times over. It can be upbeat or more relaxing, and it should make the guest feel at home from the moment they enter your spa. In the treatment rooms a variety of music is key to guests’ enjoyment. CD players in each room used to be the way to go and more recently, iPods and MP3 players with speaker systems have taken over. This gives the therapist the ability allow their guest to choose the right mood of music for a particular treatment.

solo piano, Native

American, Asian, new age, etc). Whatever your choice is, the point is to give your guest the choice and enhance comfort and enjoyment during the treatment. If you play the right music and the treatment goes well, they’ll be yours for life and are likely to buy your spa products and even private label CDs if you have your own custom made.

When your spa receptionist

books a treatment, why not have them ask your guest their music preference? Knowing your guests’ preference and keeping it on file can make all the difference. What better way to say, “We value you coming to our spa and we’re going to treat you like gold.” If a guest likes ENYA then have that or

similar tunes ready for the treatment. If they prefer Native American beats then have that on hand, the key is to have enough variety so that every guests can enjoy their preferred style of music.
