stone since our very first issue of the Black EOE Journal. When we first started our publication, diversity was not near- ly what it is now. From the very beginning, we had a vision: we wanted to

stress the importance of the term “affirmative action” by pro- viding information and assisting those who struggled to under- stand the concept. When the term first appeared in 1961in the Executive Order 10925 it was used in the reference of mea- sures to achieve non-discrimination. But by 1965, when Presi- dent Lyndon B. Johnson issued the Executive Order 11246, federal contractors were required to take “affirmative action” to hire without discrimination against race, religion or national origin. Since then, companies have worked diligently to pro- vide ample resources by collaborating with other organiza- tions and businesses on their supplier diversity efforts. The founders of The Black EOE Journal recognized such

efforts and launched the publication to spread the message of the importance of diversity. So why does diversity matter and what have we proved? In our twenty years, we have assisted companies in establishing relationships by sharing the im- portance of their diversity efforts. Diversity is more than just a term or definition of distinctness; diversity describes every individual’s form of uniqueness by race, gender, religious be- liefs, age, culture and economic background. With that said, we are not just a magazine, we are diverse in many aspects, we have assisted in the accommodation of jobs, we attend over 100 diversity conferences on an annual basis, we offer newsletters, several online tools, print magazines in book- stores and online and look for us soon on digital pads. From our inception, we have been deeply committed to

diversity. The Black EOE Journal was one of the first publi- cations to lead people into the retention of diversity. Our crystal ball tells us that the future is filled with innovation, creativity and an array of original and unique ideas. Howev-

elcome to our special 20th anniversary celebration! We have been eagerly waiting for this amazing mile-

er, this will only be possible if people continue to spread their message. We have given companies the opportunity to share with our readers special contributions, commitments, awards and recognitions they have received. Most currently, we have spotlighted ‘Top Leaders Making a Stride in Diversity’ to show how important these people are to companies and how they have been an asset. Our annual surveys prove how a company’s hard work and commitment to diverse efforts can strengthen and build our economy. We also know that a company is built by a strong team. Teams are made up of a group of individuals who proudly represent their company not as an individual, but as a whole; these employees are what make a company excel. The annual “Best of the Best” list is a great example of our commitment. The list is compiled of results from our surveys submitted from businesses, organizations and individuals who express their experience and thoughts on any given company. Throughout the year, we gather information through market research and comparative analysis to prove how genuine their diverse efforts are. For the last 20 years, we have been providing the latest,

important diversity news to help companies and individuals succeed. We have assisted many companies to spread their message, develop new ideas, and create new partnerships. While we enjoy being an important part of their diversifica- tion efforts, we also enjoy that they too consider us equally important to their given counterpart. We celebrate diversity in all aspects of business. We truly

enjoy being able to share the latest information in local and national events only to help others succeed. Thank you for 20 magnificent years of excellence, we look forward to many more years of encouraging workforce diversity. In keeping our continuous commitment, The Black EOE Journal congrat- ulates the 2011 “Best of the Best” companies; it is because of you that we continue to leave our mark in diversity. -The Black EOE Journal
