SPN APR 2011 ShowReview

SPATEX 2011, BRIGHTON, UK

branding of the event. The Pool, Spa & Lifestyle Show tag for the event which was introduced two years ago to give a more public feel is not thought to have been successful enough.

“Our return to SPATEX worked well with a new stand in a different location. As a company we are committed to help drive our industry forward and to create sustainable and better profits for all so our focus at the show was on innovative new products.

“As ever, it’s difficult to determine exactly what we got out of being there although the show plays a part in our overall marketing strategy.” Another member of the SPATA PIP committee exhibiting at SPATEX said: “The problem is more urgent than many think. Brighton is a cosy option which hasn’t worked for me. There needs to be some speed about this decision. Exhibition venues all over the country would bite your arm off for a show like this in February. I might attend a show again if was in a new London area location which would be better for PR and if we could create a bit more of a buzz about the show. In Brighton it will always be flat. People have got used to it and their expectations are low.”

The official line from the SPATEX board is there will be some work put in on trying to find an alternative venue away from the south coast but that time is a problem and although the event is out of its contract with The Hilton Metropole, the venue has been re- booked for 2012.

Said SPATEX board member Selwyn Mindell: “We have been looking for other sites and we will continue to look. The problem is SPATEX isn’t just an exhibition. It’s also a conference and an awards ceremony so we are really looking for somewhere to hold a convention and that makes the choice more difficult.”

Steven Crabb from Catalina Spas, another SPATEX director, said it was disappointing more people hadn’t attended the show. He felt that Brighton had rightly been chosen as a right venue in the past because it made networking very easy. He thought things had changed now and would like to see the event moved north of the M25 and M4. There is likely to be some re-

SPATEX PROVIDES GREAT ‘FLAG WAVING EXERCISE’ Certikin said the SPATEX show provided them with a great opportunity for their business. Marketing Manager, Cath Saunders commented: “The quality of the enquiries was very high and we had a steady number of visitors. We felt, and I think justifiably so, that the Certikin and Calorex stands were the most stylish of the exhibition. They simply could not be missed. Certikin’s tried and tested formula, of offering visitors refreshments whilst chatting with personnel and viewing the many new products on display, was a winning formula. It was a great flag waving exercise for

stunning new range of Sylvania PAR56 LED lights and a host of new water treatment products.”

BRIGHT LIGHTS FOR WATERCO Waterco Europe were delighted with the response at the show to the next generation of its multi award-winning centrifugal pre-filter, the MultiCyclone.

An all-in-one pre-filtration/filtration unit, it not only saves of thousands of litres of water a year compared to sand filtration systems but is more energy efficient and simple to install. “SPATEX has always been a great opportunity for Waterco to release and introduce to the UK pool industry new and exciting product lines for the coming season,” said Tony Fisher, Waterco Europe, “and as in previous years, 2011 certainly didn’t disappoint.”

Other new products on show were the Exotuff sand filter; the next level in injection moulded sand filters

both Certikin and the industry as a whole and business wise, it made a lot of sense.”

The stand displayed an

abundance of new products. “Those which attracted much interest included the new Roldeck Proflex, a natural finish vinyl liner range, the much talked about tiled Heatwave pool with heat saving qualities, a
