UPDATE: The latest news from SPATA and BISHTA

These updates are usually notified to BISHTA and SPATA members via their respective electronic newsletter sent out every week. Some of the items not mentioned elsewhere in this edition are included below

SPATA AT GRAND DESIGNS LIVE! EVENT

MARKETING AND PR TOOLKITS DESIGNED TO HELP SALES

The PIP committee are hard at work producing a range of consumer factsheets that will be initially available in a pdf format. Thanks are due to the committee who have been offering their advice on the content for these factsheets.

BOTTLE PR has been busy producing some advice sheets on items such as news realeases and brand guidelines as part of the PIP Marketing Toolkits. These toolkits are designed to be easily read and provide information for non specialists on key areas of marketing and PR. Other experts have been contributing valuable ideas on topics such as using social media and how to make the most from retail showrooms. These examples have been provided by BOTTLE PR and Ellen Watts, respectively. It is hoped to have SPATA seminar dates for the autumn and some SPATA regions will be holding meetings in May and these details will be sent out via SPATA News.

CHANGES TO SPATA AND BISHTA STANDARDS

SPATA is going to attend Grand Designs Live in London from 30 April to 8 May. It’s a first in terms of attending the very popular consumer event. A number of members will be supporting the event by sharing the cost and providing staff to talk with potential clients about the benefits of swimming pool ownership. By jointly promoting pool ownership and also the value of choosing a SPATA member at a nationally recognised consumer show, it is hoped to raise the profile significantly and if successful, there are plans to visit a number of other consumer shows around the UK to stimulate interest in the pool and spa industry such as Ideal Homes Scotland, in Glasgow.

Proposed updates to both the SPATA and BISHTA Standards (which were implemented in July 2010) are being discussed and any changes / amendments will be provided to members via the relevant E-Newsletter.

A large number of member factsheets have been drafted on a range of topics and some include member benefits designed to save companies money when they purchase goods and services. The vehicle purchase scheme (SPATA Fleet and BISHTA Fleet) and the Foreign Exchange scheme (SPATA FX and BISHTA FX) are just two examples where members may be able to recoup some (or all) of their membership fee by making savings on other areas of expenditure. See more information on page 32.

SPATA AND BISHTA MEMBER BENEFITS UPDATE

At the time of going to press, SPATA has been in discussions with British Standards about our trade association becoming an authorised distributor of all relevant standards affecting our industry. This could lead to members being able to get as much as 20% off the price of any standard that they buy, which could potentially save members hundreds of pounds a year! There will be an update on this important topic in the next issue of SPN.

As part of their 2011-12 membership package, both SPATA and BISHTA members will be entitled to receive an 8Gb memory stick. The stick will have a number of useful documents on it and the most up to date versions are contained on the websites in the members’ area.
