SwimSpas APR 2011 SPN

43

Swim spas have become accepted as a real alternative to full scale swimming pools. The market is still growing fast – driven by consumers who want better use of space in their home – and a powerful exercise machine

I

s it a pool? Is it a hot tub? Yes to both! A swim spa provides the best of both worlds when it comes to swimming and relaxing. As in a standard hot tub, a swim spa has jets that soothe and massage away aches and pains but it is also possible to have a super swim workout by pitting your energy against the powerful swim jets that many swim spas now contain. The swimmer stays more or less in one place and never has to perform a flip-turn! As an alternative to a full sized pool, a swim spa is a great option for people who want the ability to swim at home without losing too much garden area. A swim spa is a small pool equipped with a series of powerful jets on one end, part swimming area, and part hot tub area, depending on the model purchased.

SPA CREST’S IDEAL MARRIAGE Spa Crest’s PowerSwim Spa is a large spa that uses powerful jets to create a swift counter- current. The result is a pool which offers therapy and relaxation and is the ideal marriage of pool and spa. Perfect for regular exercise, swimming, or aqua-jogging, as well as the enjoyment, comfort and relaxation of hot water. With an adaptable current of between 730 and 2,200 litres by minute, the PowerSwim adjusts to every style of swimming and to every

exercise level. With six high flow jets, three pumps and three air regulators the swimspa creates the ideal current for any intensity or exercise desired.

Designed from the ground up for durability, luxury and most importantly, for utility, PowerSwim is one of the deepest swimspas manufactured allowing an actual water depth of up to 140cm or as shallow as 130cm. Design innovations such as their exclusive “no slip” floor makes the PowerSwim perfect for aqua-jogging. The water temperature is maintained at the user’s desired setting and is ready to go anytime in any season of the year. Equipped with two LED lights, PowerSwim can be illuminated at night for exercise or set to “lightshow”, creating an array of effects and colours designed to showpiece the swim spa.

With its superior isolation of polyurethane foam and an isothermal cover, PowerSwim is designed to re-circulate heat provided by the pumps and other mechanical components as well as to conserve heat-loss through the use of the most modern and efficient components available. The PowerSwim can easily be placed in a garden, terrace or even in the interior of a house. Its small “foot print” answers the need for both a pool and a spa in areas where space is constrained.

NEW SWIMGYM FROM SANTELLA LEISURE Santella Leisure Products, a new company in the wet leisure industry, has launched the Swimgym as one of its first products, made from laminated engineered beams and a stainless steel strengthening harness.

The Swimgym comes in a modular form and the components can effectively be fed through a window. This avoids the need for cranes and general disruption and enables the use of locations and enclosures that would otherwise be impossible, e.g. conservatories, garages, cellars and Santella’s range of swim lodges. The Swimgym can be built in hours, and all the appropriate plumbing and electrics completed in the same day. The unit is self-supporting and engineered to withstand the water pressures without any underground fixing or side wall buttressing. All that is required is a level compacted sub base.

The construction system enables 100mm of insulation in the floor and walls and when coupled with a thermal heat retention blanket or slatted cover, the heat saving is dramatic. This enables temperatures to be maintained economically at high levels, and the heating costs, especially if combined with a heat pump, are dramatically reduced. Insulation is included as standard in all Swimgyms.
