There will be road and rail links to nearby ports and the Humber Sea Terminal and a large part of the site will provide landscaping and provision for wildlife and ecology.

Plans approved for £100m port related development on South Humber Gateway

Because the application is so significant, it must now go to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to decide whether or not he wishes to intervene in determining the application. If this is not the case, then the application will be referred back to the Council, who will then approve it in accordance with the recommendations and conditions agreed by the Council’s planning committee.

Able UK has already invested £50m in the existing Able Humber Ports Facility for the storage of vehicles for manufacturers.

The approval is subject to over 50 different planning conditions. These include a new recommendation to ‘protect species, landscape and improve biodiversity.’ For full details of the recommendations, please contact Mike Welton on 01724 297492 or Bill Hill on 01724 297482.

Cllr Mark Kirk, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:

“Without a doubt this is the largest application ever presented to this Council that will create thousands of jobs for local people.

North Lincolnshire Council has approved the area’s biggest ever planning application for a £100m port related development on the South Humber Bank - the UK’s fastest growing ports and logistics centre. The application by major landowner Able UK will create around 5,000 much needed jobs.

The development, on land at East Halton in North Lincolnshire, covers an area of around 1,500 acres. It includes plans for a wide range of developments designed to provide services needed for the continuing development of the South Humber Bank.

This includes the creation of transport depots, warehousing and external storage areas, offices, a business park and motel.

“The South Humber Gateway is of huge national and international importance.

“It is the UK’s fastest growing ports and logistics centre and is ideally located close to two international airports, with excellent road and rail links - making it a gateway to Europe.

“The decision today marks a significant step in realising the enormous economic potential of the South Humber Gateway.”
