TAG KEY APPOINTMENTS IN OFFSHOREWIND


TAG Energy Solutions has announced a number of key appointments for its new offshore wind tubular production facility.


Based at the company’s Haverton Hill headquarters, the new recruits will be part of the 100-strong workforce that is being assembled to operate the facility. Currently under construction, the new plant is expected to be complete in spring 2011.


Working alongside Mike will be Production Engineer Mark Selby. Mark previously worked in this role for a process instrumentation control company. His job involves defining and optimising the production process to ensure efficient and on time delivery of equipment and services.


Also joining TAG Energy Solutions is Quality Manager Phil Gladwin. Phil has been involved in Quality Assurance, inspection and certification for 35 years. He has worked for major companies including Total, BP, Shell and Exxon Mobil on offshore oil and gas projects in Western Europe, Azerbaijan,West Africa and the Middle East.


Phil will be refining the TAG Energy Solutions’ Quality Management System to align processes of the new fabrication facility to meet the requirements and specifications of renewable energy sector clients.


Rounding off these key appointments are JamieWales, CAD Draughtsman, Tony Smith, Document Controller, and Sarah Marshall, Procurement Officer.


Among the new appointments is new Head of Engineering, Mike McHugh. Mike has over 30 years experience in structural design, fabrication and construction on major bridges, industrial and commercial buildings and oil and gas projects. He has previously worked as Operations/General Manager at Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Director at Tees Alliance Group. As Head of Engineering at TAG Energy Solutions he will be responsible for the design and drawing for production and the design development of the offshore wind turbine foundations.

ABBWINS $580-MILLION POWER TRANSMISSION ORDER IN EUROPE


ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won orders worth around $580 million from Svenska Kraftnät of Sweden and LITGRID turtas AB of Lithuania to supply a new power transmission link between the Nordic and Baltic regions.


ABB will deliver a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system comprising two converter stations and cable to transmit 700 MW (megawatts) of electricity with minimum losses across a distance of more than 400 kilometers.

S&C ELECTRIC COMPANY ESTABLISHES POWER SYSTEMS SERVICES OPERATION IN EUROPE


S&C Electric Company has announced the creation of its Power Systems Services division for Europe, a milestone in the company's expansion of its international service operations that will help enhance power reliability and green resource integration into the world's power grid.


The Europe Power Systems Services operation, located in Manchester, England, will focus on improving electrical service reliability and efficiency through the expansion of service offerings such as consulting on renewable energy and grid automation, training services and system design, build, and installation consultation.


"Electric utilities in Europe and around the world are addressing unprecedented challenges, like meeting renewable


energy portfolio standard requirements and reducing peak loads," says Andrew Jones, Managing Director, S&C Electric Company Europe. "Utilities, and the businesses and consumers who rely on their services, need counsel from professionals with deep grid expertise to help navigate these changes and meet increasingly stringent power standards."


As such, the company announced the appointment of Mick Barlow to lead S&C's regional services operation.
