Montrose pool scheme contractor named

Ogilvie Construction’s £7.05m tender for the construction of a new swimming pool in Montrose has been given the green light by local councillors. Angus Council approved the Stirling-


based firm’s submission, which was the lowest of six tenders that had been received for the swimming pool scheme. Te local authority now estimates that


the project will cost £7.9m – £2m less than it had previously estimated and within the £10m set aside for the work.


Swan Leisure opens in Dublin peTe hayMan


Swan Leisure, a new Donnelly Turpin Architects-designed leisure centre in Rathmines, Dublin, has been unveiled. John Paul Construction


built the new complex on behalf of Dublin City Council, which forms part of the wider €36m (£30.5m) Rathmines Square development. Facilities include a 49-sta-


tion gym equipped by Precor; a 25m x 12.5m swimming pool with moveable floor; a dance and fitness studio; and a meet- ing/spin studio. A full-sized sports hall capable of hosting


football, basketball, volleyball and badminton has also been created at the venue, along with changing facilities and a café. Dublin Lord Mayor Gerry Breen, who offi-

Paul Dumbell and Brian Green of KPMG, joint administrators of Simpson Leisure Limited, have agreed to sell the Old Hall Health Club and Spa near Knutsford, Cheshire, to a club member – Will Banks. Te sale of the club was brokered by spe-


cialist agents Christie + Co, who acted on behalf of the administrators. The acquisition includes a split-level


health and fitness club, spa treatment area, indoor heated swimming pool, group exer- cise studio, tennis courts and lounge bar.


Councillors approve Wiltshire leisure proposals

Plans for an overhaul and reorganisation of indoor leisure facilities across Wiltshire have been given the green light. Wiltshire County Council has backed a


refined proposal, which is set to include four new-build ‘campus’ schemes. Warminster, Melksham, Trowbridge and


Amesbury/Durrington are the locations in line to benefit from the new facilities. Improvements are planned for facilities


in Devizes and Salisbury, in addition to the refurbishment of the Olympiad campus.

£8m leisure facility planned for Girvan’s harbourside peTe hayMan


A new £8m leisure facility is being planned for a harbourside site in Girvan to help enhance local tourism and leisure opportunities. The proposed venue – backed by South Ayrshire Council – will include a swimming


pool; a fitness suite; and an outdoor learning and activity centre with climbing wall. A multi-purpose space for community


events; a restaurant; and a viewing area also form part of the proposals, which are designed to act as a catalyst for further regeneration.


Improved facilities for Blackpool facility peTe hayMan


Blackpool’s Moor Park Health and Leisure Centre is to bene- fit from improved facilities as part of a major refurbishment led by the local authority. The venue’s swimming


pool has closed for a 16-week period to allow work to take place, with the new-look com- plex due to reopen in April. Blackpool Council has


secured external funding to help finance the improve- ments, which will allow for a revamp of changing facili- ties and provision for disabled users and families. When complete, the new-look Moor Park


Moor Park Health and Leisure Centre is undergoing a refurbishment A four-court sports hall; a 25m swimming


Health, Leisure and Learning Centre will feature a 44-station fitness suite; a spinning studio; and an exercise class studio.
