By Jacquelyn Vaughn When the cold comes to
Detroit, golfers must migrate to a warmer climate to con- tinue hitting the ball. Be sure to budget at least one out-of- state or international golf trip for next year’s chilly season. Squeeze it in between turkey dinners or Christmas feasts, or even plan to take the family with you to your selection of hundreds of

wasn’t enough, how about play- ing on the Innisbrook Resort’s impressive 900-acre, 72-hole PGA golf course owned by Af- rican American entrepreneur and philanthropist. Shelia C. Johnson. Johnson, who was first known for founding the BET network with ex-husband Bob Johnson, is the current CEO of Salamander Hospital- ity. In partnership with long- time luxury hotel and resort executive Prem Devadas, who operates the resorts and spa, the Innisbrook provides noth-

With over 65,000 square feet of newly renovated guest suites, spa and confer- ence facilities, Innisbrook pro- vides the ultimate golf resort experience, featuring picture perfect greens with a river that runs through it. Innisbrook’s collection of four champion- ship golf courses is among the finest in America and is the proud host of the PGA TOUR’ Transitions Championship every March.

If you ever
wanted to play like the pros and see how they are chal- lenged, check out their PGA Tour Island Course and Cop- perhead Courses and experi- ence the beautifully struc- tured bunkers, water hazards and feel the pinpoint accu- racy needed to win the 71 par courses. You may not be ready to play with Tiger Woods when you finish, but you will definitely learn something new to improve your game. In- nisbrook is easily accessible
and centrally located near Tampa’s great attractions like Busch Gardens, sports arenas and beaches. It’s a great trip for you and the girls or you and the family.

golf resorts. My October trip to Tampa,
Florida, proved to be an amaz- ing experience as I competed in the “The Brothers Invita- tional Golf Tournament.” I was one of seven females to 54 men to play on the gorgeous Innis- brook Resort and Golf Course. A small golf group started in early 1960s in Hyde Park, New York, who used the friendly ri- valry of golf for balance from their busy lives as evangeli- cal ministers, now has a huge group following that includes female members.
The Brothers tournament
was formatted for individual play. We had a scramble the first day to become famil- iar with the course and meet some of the players. People came from all over, includ- ing Bermuda, Chicago, Phoe- nix, Canada and Atlanta. The Brothers have been doing this type of event for over 30 years and I was amazed with their organization and attention to detail.
The second, third and
fourth days we went into the individual competition. There were eight flights with first and second placements in each flight, including the Ladies’ A and B flights, the Men’s flights, the Super Seniors and Seniors Championship Flight. To my knowledge there were no skin pots, but several con- test holes such as longest drives and closest to the pin. But the group was more inter- ested in their fellowship than competition, which is good. The weather was great, the golfing was wonderful and the price was right.
During the awards banquet
the Brothers welcomed new- comers and had a quick annual meeting announcing that they will return once more to Inn- isbrook the first week in Oc- tober 2011. I guess I am now a member of the Brothers, so ladies you know I am on a mis- sion now to get the name to at least include us since there are 10 ladies now a part of the
