world’s first large-scale 4G Long Term Evolu- tion (LTE) network to Oakland and Macomb counties, including portions of Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Rochester Hills, Troy, Waterford, Mt. Clemens, Shelby, Sterling Heights, Utica and Washington as well as part of Milford to cover General Motors Proving Grounds. Verizon to launch 4G LTE What does 4G mean for you?

Verizon announced that it is bringing the
• 4G stands for “fourth generation” of wireless technology. Verizon Wireless’ 4G network is based on LTE technology which is projected to be the global standard for 4G. The company is leveraging its 700 MHz spectrum for LTE deploy- ment in the United States, which helps us quickly deploy a high-quality wireless broadband network with excellent coverage.
• Verizon Wireless will launch the world’s first large-scale 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) net- work in 38 major metropolitan areas by the end of the year.
• The company is also launching 4G LTE in more than 60 commercial airports coast to coast – both the airports within the launch areas plus airports in other key
cities...and there is much more.
The initial avail-
ability of a 4G LTE wireless network in a portion of Oakland and Macomb coun- ties is part of the company’s major network launch in 38 major metropolitan
areas by the end of the year. In addition, the company is launching 4G LTE in more than 60 commercial airports coast to coast—both the airports within the launch areas, plus airports in other key cities.
“The possibilities that 4G will offer busi-
nesses and consumers are limitless,” said John Granby, president, Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless. “It’s not about what 4G can do. The question is what do you want 4G to do for you? Initially this advanced tech- nology will offer faster speeds when web brows- ing and uploading or downloading files and less lag time when streaming videos or video con- ferencing. Our 4G network, however, promises much more with the ability to marry machines or devices to each other through technological intelligence to benefit businesses and consum- ers, alike.”
Verizon Wireless is building its 4G LTE
network with the same commitment to perfor- mance and reliability for which it has long been recognized. Verizon Wireless’ focus on reliabil- ity is based on rigid engineering standards and
a disciplined deployment approach year after year.
Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE rollout positions
the company to be the global leader in 4G LTE deployment. Verizon Wireless expects 4G LTE average data rates to be 5-12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2-5 Mbps on the uplink in real-world, loaded network environments. These speeds are significantly faster than Verizon Wireless and other wire- less providers’ current or promised 3G network speeds.
By leveraging its 700 MHz spectrum for LTE
deployment in the United States, Verizon Wire- less is capable of quickly deploying a high-qual- ity wireless broadband network with excellent coverage. The company is currently install- ing LTE equipment at existing cell sites and switching centers around the United States as part of its extensive, ongoing investment in its voice and data network infrastructure.
From the CTIA Enterprise & Applications
conference in San Francisco in early October, Lowell McAdam, president and chief operating officer of Verizon, discussed the initial national launch and highlighted metropolitan areas that would first get the 4G LTE wireless network.
