BANG THE DRUM

Welcome to T

he new Government may be settling down but the strong political views of property people show no sign of placid acceptance of the proposals and plans for the housing market. Mortgages are still incredibly hard to come by, buyer demand sluggish, to say the least and prices, as a result, are down.

The Big Society plan isn’t going down a storm either and many people I have spoken to think

that the Government has put housing on the back burner while they attempt to sort out the financial mess that the country is suffering from. Ministers and MPs, say our sources, have ‘gone to ground’ since we elected them (how unusual!) and they’re not keen to meet and talk to us. It’s a shame because the industry has much to say that could really help the Government

understand what the market needs. Bernard Clarke of the CML has some views and suggestions in our Politics of Planning feature on Page 14 and Glynn Trott is concerned that the ‘austerity regime’ will have a negative effect on the lettings market. On a positive note, we now have all the plans finalised for the NALS and ProPertydrum

Join us on21 September and hear about social media, insurance, software and more.

Lettings Conference the View From the top on 21st September. We have a great programme lined up that will inspire and entertain you, including presentations from James Bacon of Google and Tracy Falke from Freestyle Interactive on how the use of internet and social media – Twitter, Facebook – can bring huge benefits to your marketing efforts for little cost.

More down to earth but no less important, other sessions will cover insurances, software,

social housing links, employment law and how to maximise your return on investment in portals and websites. Full details of this excellent event will be found on Page 6 so head there first if you are interested in lettings and management. We have several major features in this issue; the last of our Technology features, this month

focusing on Digital Marketing, the first of a new series on lettings insurances and a major view from every possible angle of Floorplans. There’s even more too, but I’ve run out of space! Your feedback is very important to us and most welcome; if you have any comment or

suggestions on what you would like to see in PROPERTYdrum we would be delighted to hear them, just email me, Sheila@propertydrum.com
