FLANNERY GETS SOCIAL
Our first stop took us to the A15 Lincoln Eastern Bypass, a £120 million, 7.5km road, designed to improve Lincoln’s infrastructure. Once completed, the Galliford Try run project will help to minimise traffic congestion, whilst enhancing the inter-city working environment encouraging growth.
One of the most interesting design challenges posed by the project involves filling the Old Lincoln Quarry. This requires several hundred thousand tons of fill, which is being cut and imported from the south side of the project. The process itself involves removing soil, crushing rock and layering the earthworks for the road, all to the exacting standards of the client. To achieve this, the Flannery team have had to use a wide variety of Cat®
equipment
to support the project. Some of which Tony has caught in action across the site.
MARLOW FLOOD DEFENCES
Trimble Machine Controlled Cat D6N dozers, supported by SITECH UK & Ireland work to grade to deliver the highly accurate earthworks model.
From roads in Lincoln to flood defences in Marlow, the next project, also run by Galliford Try for the Environment Agency, involved a £15 million plan to reduce the risk of flooding. Aimed at protecting at least 300,000 homes from river, sea, groundwater, surface water and coastal erosion, the Marlow scheme required numerous earthwork interventions.
Flannery was tasked with supporting the construction of new flood walls and embankments, whilst also constructing a flood-storage area, to replace the natural floodplain.
Cat 320 reflecting on its work at a lagoon
Modelling for the project was completed by the Environment Agency using Trimble technology to shape the earthworks and the new lagoon layout. To achieve the design, the Flannery team used
Trimble Machine Control on its Cat® fleet to complete the whole of
the earthworks. This included the creation of the new lagoons and balancing lakes.
Flannery is also supporting major airport projects. At Stanstead its brand-new Cat 335F zero tail swing excavator has been carrying out drainage works on a new car park project. This includes the replacement of existing bays and the construction of reinforced concrete bases and chambers on the main apron stands, Airside.

Bringing the plant industry to life is a passion for the staff of P Flannery Ltd. There isn’t a working day that goes by without me seeing a member of the team sharing their experiences of the wide range of projects they work on. But there is one person in particular that is a prolific sharer of Finning Cat equipment in action across the UK. That individual is Tony Wootton, Flannery National Account Manager and a very good photographer.

I got in touch with Tony for this special edition of Finning News, to share some of his amazing collection of site pictures and the stories behind them.

It’s not all about big machines for Flannery, as we can see from this picture of its Cat 308 at the Poole Park Project. Here the team are working on placing Gabion Baskets in different parts of the lake. The project will improve the landscape, water quality and also support habitats that allow crabs to thrive.
Like other businesses, Flannery are doing a great job in promoting the work they do with Cat machines across the country and I enjoy sharing their pictures on my social media, as I know Finning News does. If you want Finning to support your social media posts of Cat equipment, why not copy in one of their channels below. Happy sharing.
