310 midi excavator, a totally new size for Caterpillar. The Cat 310 tips the scales between 9,601 kg and 10,182 kg, depending on the specification.

Having become acquainted with the mini excavators, it was time to test the Cat®

It’s one of four new models in the Cat midi-excavator line up, which also includes the Cat 307.5, Cat 308CR and Cat 309CR. These machines feature an all new angular design, with flat panel doors built into the counterweight area and slightly recessed to prevent damage occurring. The Cat 310 is powered by a four-cylinder EU Stage V emissions compliant Cat C3.3 diesel engine, with a power output rating of 70.3hp.

The one-piece standard boom is 4,300 mm in length and coupled with the standard 2,500mm long dipper arm, the Cat 310 is capable of a maximum dig depth of 5,174mm. A hefty looking dozer blade is also fitted as standard.

Having spent some time in the Cat 302 CR, I instantly felt at home in the cab of the Cat 310. This is because the one dominant features across the whole range is the commonality of the controls and monitors in the cabs.

Having excavated a trench, I put the ‘Stick Steer’ function to good use to back fill the excavation. It’s just a fantastic idea and makes life so simple.

In my opinion, the Cat 310 is a machine that is going to appeal to wide cross section of the market, from large rental fleets, to highly specified owner/ operator versions.
