MINI
TRANSFORMATION By Nick Drew of the Earthmovers Digger Man Blog
In February this year, I was invited to the Caterpillar®
Pre-Bauma press launch at its
demonstration area in Malaga. As a big fan of excavators, I was in for a real treat, as Caterpillar revealed an entirely new range of in-house built next generation mini and midi excavators.
Taking inspiration from the previously launched larger excavators, including the Cat 330 and Cat 336, the new minis have much greater standardisation across the range. The five new models launched range from 1.6 tonnes to 2.2 tonnes. I opted to test drive what will be a UK market favourite, the Cat 302 CR (Compact Radius) model. It tips the scales at 2,200kgs in its fully cabbed variant and will replace the outgoing Cat 302.7D model.
