Ghost Town Renovations planned as Western area celebrates 75th anniversary

After what Cedar Fair group CEO Matt Ouimet described as the California park’s best ever season in 2015, Knott's Berry Farm is to celebrate its 75th anniversary with two major offerings this summer. The centrepiece of the celebrations is the interactive experience Ghost Town Alive!, which immerses guests in new stories and adventures in the familiar town of Calico. From pledging one’s allegiance to notorious bandits, to saving the day alongside courageous cowboys, guests play an active role in shaping the events of the day. Meanwhile the GhostRider wooden coaster returns from a major restoration

project with new trains that will gallop along over 4,500ft (1,372 m) of new wooden track. Since 1998 the classic ride from Custom Coasters has loomed over Ghost Town as the longest, fastest and tallest wooden rollercoaster on the US West Coast. Yet as the coaster aged, the ride experience had become a little too intense, and so

Wanda Woodie complete

Final testing of the new wooden rollercoaster at Wanda City theme park in Nanchang, China, is now complete, according to Clair Hain, president of Great Coaster International (GCI).

This giant coaster is on schedule to break new records in China for the tallest

(160ft/49m) and longest at 5,111ft (1,558m). In addition the new behemoth, named Viper, features the longest wooden coaster drop in China at 142.5ft (43.4m).Hain was on-site to oversee final elements of the ride including it top speed of 62 mph (100km/h), making it GCI’s fastest wooden coaster to date. “We are extremely happy to have been in such a close relationship with

Nanchang Wanda City Investment Co throughout this project," reports Hain, "and can’t wait for the grand opening in 2016. Wanda has been absolutely great.”

RMC releases single

rail coaster track Rocky Mountain Construction, builder of spectacular hybrid wooden rollercoasters, has introduced a new single rail track that will enable the Idaho-based company to offer all- steel coasters. Called Trex (as in tyrannosaurus rex), the large steel box beam. Unlike RMC's Topper track and IBox track, the Trex track will also use all-steel

supports. Benefits include the absence of the need to gauge the track, less structure, a unique look, and no track ties. Trains consisting of new six-passenger cars will navigate over the Trex track.

New from Zamperla

A brand new addition in the Zamperla Coaster line, the Factory Coaster will catapult passengers through a series of unique surprises. Keeping guests guessing, the new steel coaster has been designed to give all riders a more immersive feeling, soft launch, backward switch, and a drop down effect. Each of the seven 16 seat cars is each equipped with lap restraint. The first installation is scheduled for 2017.

the overhaul will be welcomed by many Knott’s guests. The restoration is being handled by Great Coasters International. New Millennium Flyer trains have been designed to look like mining cars, each

with gold, silver or copper accents. As part of the construction, the mid-course brake run will be removed, allowing riders to enjoy a relentless ride from the start to finish. In 1940, Walter Knott famously looked for a way to entertain and educate hungry

guests waiting for hours to dine at Mrs Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant in Buena Park outside Los Angeles. Ghost Town was born from Walter’s passion for and fondness for the Wild West. Now the park is completely refurbishing Mrs Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant ready for a grand reopening in spring 2016. The project will refresh and preserve the original “tea room” dining room.
