EDINBURGH REVAMPS CARDIO GYM
The University of Edinburgh unveils its newly-refurbished Centre for Sport and Exercise Cardio Gym
ABOVE: Attendees were challenged to walk, run, stride or cycle using the new Precor equipment
The University of Edinburgh’s newly-refurbished Centre for Sport and Exercise (CSE) state-of-the-art Cardio Gym is now open. It features a suite of brand new cardio kit, a re-designed layout to improve accessibility and new infrastructure to increase service reliability. The refurbishment is part of a strategic pledge
and ongoing commitment from the University to ensure its members and guests have access to the most technologically advanced equipment. The new gym was officially opened by Rhona
Auckland, 2014 European U23 Cross Country Champion, Jim Aitken MBE, Director of Sport, University of Edinburgh, and Jonathan Griffiths, UK Marketing Manager for Precor. Guests were the first to use the 102 recently
installed pieces of Precor cardiovascular equipment, which brings the total number of units of Precor CV machines to 145 across the Cardio, myGym and Circuit Gym facilities – making CSE one of the largest single
site installations in Europe. Atendees were challenged to walk, run, stride or
cycle as many metres as they could, with the aim of achieving 885 kilometres (around 500 miles) between them, in acknowledgement of the Precor 885 series. Members were inspired to participate with the well- known song by The Proclaimers – ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 miles)’ playing in the background. Edinburgh is the first University in Europe to benefit
from the Precor Next-Generation Experience Series treadmills, with 45 units being showcased, as well as seven award-winning Adaptive Motion Trainers, to add to the 30 already on offer. All units feature Preva networked fitness, a cloud
based software platform incorporating a suite of tools to help both operators and exercisers achieve their set targets. The University of Edinburgh’s Director of Sport
and Exercise, Jim Aitken MBE, said: “We continually seek to enhance member experience and provide the highest level of facilities for our members and the community. The refurbishment is core to our health and well-being advocacy and central to promoting Precor’s Preva networked fitness software, that helps our students and the life-long community achieve their goals. It’s a fantastic training aid that monitors, educates and inspires, and everyone loves it! The increase in provision of treadmills follows member feedback requesting additional units and demonstrates our belief in acting upon their comments. And we’re thrilled the installation of the new Precor Next-Generation Experience treadmills is one of the largest in Europe.” UB
