Converting Your Screen to Polydeck

Converting a Screen Deck from Existing Media to Polydeck’s Modular PipeTop II™ Stringer System.

With a little preplanning, converting a screen deck to take advantage of the versatility and open area of the Polydeck PipeTop II™ system can be done efficiently and quickly. The steps below describe converting a screen deck from side tension wire cloth to PipeTop II™, but the same basic steps can be followed for converting other deck types as well.

1. HOLD PLANNING MEETING & LOCK-OUT

To help ensure the safety of the installation team, it’s a good idea to hold a short meeting to review installation procedures before starting the conversion process.

Before any work begins, always be sure to lock-out the screen and all related equipment.

2. REMOVE SIDE CLAMP RAILS

Unbolt and remove the side clamp rails and, on a double crowned deck, the center hold- down bar is also removed.

5. GRIND FLAT

Grind off any excess welds left on the cross members that interfere with the 12” on-center placement of the stringer rails.

Once this is done, you’re now ready to install your PipeTop II™ conversion rails.

6. MOVE JIGGED ASSEMBLIES INTO PLACE

Our jigged frame assemblies will help ensure accurate spacing and a simpler, safer installation.

Move the jigged assembly sections into place centered on the cross members and carefully aligned with each other and with the side plates of the screen.

For decks with crowned sub- frames, coped stringer assemblies can be custom made.

3. LIFT OUT WIRE CLOTH SECTIONS

Next, the wire cloth sections are lifted out. Inspect the sub-frame for excessive wear to ensure that the existing deck frame is in serviceable shape. Remove crown bar rubber from the top of the bucker bars to expose the area that will be worked on.

See pages 12-13 for a complete list of available frame types.

Use extreme care during this step. 7. ENSURE CENTERING AND SQUARING

When positioning the assembly sections, it’s critical that they be centered and squared within the machine to ensure that the screen panels fit accurately and securely.

4. REMOVE BUCKER BARS

Use a cutting torch to cut away the bucker bars from the cross members, thereby removing them from the frame. Be careful not to damage the cross members during this process.

8. ATTACH SHIM STRIPS

If necessary to ensure uniform height or proper fit, flat bar or angle iron shim strips should be welded to the side ledge of the deck frame.
