It’s a huge year for cruise on all fronts


t is no coincidence that some of the world’s largest cruise operators are among the biggest supporters of this week’s Globe Travel Awards.


I As the director of Clia UK & Ireland, Andy Harmer, writing in


this week’s cruise special edition, says 2015 is going to be the year for cruise, with so much capacity coming on to the market. So the lines really need to shout about their ships and ensure


they have agents’ support to fill them. With most cruise lines relying on agents for at least 80% of their sales, Travel Weekly’s Globe Travel Awards, the biggest voted for solely by agents, are a perfect match. The likes of P&O Cruises, which will launch Britannia in March,


Royal Caribbean, which introduces Anthem of the Seas in April, Norwegian Cruise Line, which unveils Escape in October, and Celebrity Cruises and MSC Cruises, both with new ships on order, are all heavily involved in the prestigious Park Lane event to ensure the audience is not only wowed, but inspired. Co-presenting the Globes each year is one of the absolute highlights of my job – a true honour. Putting on a great show for all is essential. But whatever


entertainment we lay on, it is still seeing how much it means to the winners as they join me on stage to accept those iconic gold trophies that remains the best part of the night for me. And I love checking Twitter the next day too to see companies celebrating with their teams – invariably with champagne, doughnuts or pizza! Thank you to all the agents who registered tens of thousands of votes this year. I wish all the suppliers the best of luck.
