Coach & Player – A Winning Relationship

2014 has been a fruitful year for Ladies European Tour Player, Charley Hull, and PGA Professional and John Jacobs Coach of the Year Award Winner, Lee Scarbrow. We caught up with both player and coach at the Ladies European Tour’s European Masters at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club, UK, earlier this year to find out what has made their working partnership so successful

Charley Hull is regarded as one of the sport’s brightest young stars and has made a quickest ascent to the top of the game in recent history with a Ladies European Tour (LET) title, Solheim Cup representation and LET Rookie of the Year all under her belt. The development of a player of Hull’s standard is undoubtedly down to a combination of factors, but a key element in her rise to the top has been the influence of coach, Lee Scarbrow. Scarbrow is Head Professional at John O' Gaunt Golf Club in Bedfordshire, UK, and has a proven track record of coaching successful players, most notably perhaps with Ryder Cup legend and European Tour player, Ian Poulter, who was under Lee's tutelage during his time as Head Professional at Leighton Buzzard Golf Club. The relationship between coach and sportsperson is one of the most important interactions a performer can have. The right coach can be the difference between a good player and a legendary player and can oſten make or break careers.
