SCHOOL CATERING HITS THE GREEN MARK

Harrogate Ladies' College has been recently awarded the Food for Life Catering Mark, which recognises local and ethical

food production by British food providers. The Silver Mark, awarded by the Soil Association, follows on from the school’s decision to prioritise locally- sourced ingredients for its meals. Over 80 per cent of Harrogate’s

suppliers are based in Yorkshire. Pupils at the school have also shown a particular interest in food provenance, providing regular feedback on the catering service to the catering manager. Open to all food providers, the Food

for Life catering mark recognises food providers who prepare meals using fresh, local ingredients. Caterers with the Silver Catering Mark use at least 5% organic ingredients as well as a selection of UK or local produce, and offer healthier menus. www.sacert.org/catering
