CLUBS ONLINE YORKSHIRE

Our judging nights this year have consisted of going to the Bellerby’s at Nothallerton with the North East Club and we used that night as a HYB practice night. We held our HYB linear night at Mr & Mrs E Fort’s, Silsden Moor as the qualifier for national Competitions Day. Big thanks must go to Phillip Oliver, the Holstein UK Classifier, who came at short notice to go through how to do linear and act as our judge. The results from the night were as follows:

Junior Intermediate Natasha Jennings Rosie Throup Senior Georgina Fort

Our only qualifying judging day was held jointly with Lancashire at David Halls at Coniston. Another great turnout was seen from our members. The results were as follows:

Junior Joe Beecroft

Intermediate Jenny Hardcastle

Senior Georgina Fort

At national finals this year we sent an all-girl team. Jenny Hardcastle took most of the trophy’s home with her winning intermediate stock judging and linear as well as winning best set of reasons. Jenny also came third in the intermediate linear team with Rosie Throup. Georgina Fort also came fourth in the senior stock judging. The following week the Club held the ‘Six Out of 30’ night, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Roger Hildreth’s at York. It was well attended by Yorkshire and North East members. Tom Aryton won the HYB section and Andrew Jennings won the sweep section. Our herd competition has taken place with Mark Cornthwaite doing the honours and being our master judge. Full results will be presented at our annual dinner which takes place Friday 31 October, at The Bridge, Wetherby. Georgina Fort

STAFFORDSHIRE County Show

Every year the members have a complimentary stand at Staffordshire County Show, where we serve an assortment of sandwiches and rolls and a tea or coffee free of charge over the two days to members and guests and provide tables and chairs for a welcome sit down. This is very popular every year, and is run with the help of members’ wives, who also provide a wonderful assortment of cakes. A raffle usually covers the cost of food and also electricity.

Stockjudging Evenings 2014

Our first evening was a joint occasion with Derbyshire Club, held at Andrew and Roy Dutton’s (Royan) on May 8. The weather just managed to stay fine after a very wet day. Richard Pilkington acted as Master Judge (Aintree) and Andrew Spicer from Holstein UK judged the Linear competition. It was very well attended and many thanks go to the Dutton family for hosting this event and providing refreshments On May 22 we met at the Marshall’s farm (Overseal) where again the weather held fine. Master judge was Owain Harries from Cogent. Prior to the actual judging, Owain demonstrated to the younger members the points he was looking for, using two cows for comparisons, in a clear and concise way. Also, he gave them hints on terms and descriptions to use while giving reasons, which was very favourably received by all members. As in previous visits to the Overseal herd, it was well attended and the supper was outstanding.
