WORLD OF TANKS developer Wargaming was so impressed with BigWorld’s MMO engine it acquired the middleware’s creators in 2012 for $45m. Since then the company has continued to develop the engine and licence it out to other studios.


The BigWorld Technology Suite includes access to the firm’s lighting and terrain texturing systems, terrain sculpting and painting tools, and other content creation software. Licensees are also able to use BigWorld’s servers to help handle their own online persistent worlds.

NEXTPEER’S MULTIPLAYER SOCIAL SDK network for iOS and Android enables developers to implement real-time synchronous and asynchronous multiplayer into their apps. Used in a variety of different genres, the SDK has been used in over 4,500 games. The tool allows for cross- platform multiplayer and offers a recording system that creates ghost players from past sessions that can act as a new opponent. It also offers built-in Facebook integration enabling users to invite friends to join while also displaying their activities and results on their timeline.
