UK schools to get 3D printing hub

Tollbar Multi-Academy Trust future proofs students with launch of Ultimaker 3D printing hub

Tollbar Family of Academies is commited to future-proofing its students for the world of technology with the announcement that it will be the first Create Education hub for 3D printing in UK schools. The Multi-Academy Trust will be the

first of 50 planned 3D printing hubs by the Ultimaker schools initiative, which aims to bring 3D technology into the mainstream. TFA has invested in 10 Ultimaker 2 3D

printers, which will be used throughout Tollbar and Cleethorpes Academies, giving students access to the ever- changing world of technology. Teachers and pupils are amazed at the

potential of 3D printing and the cross- curricular learning opportunities it offers. Marie McDonagh, Cleethorpes

Academy Curriculum Leader for Technology, said the possibilities are endless for students with these new printers, which are fast, reliable and very accurate. "Students are absolutely amazed at

how they can design and create an object and then watch it print out before their eyes exactly as they planned it. It offers them endless possibilities that extend across the curriculum and we are very excited to be able to give them the opportunity to use technology that is only just becoming

more widely available in industry." Paul Croft, Ultimaker GB Director,

said: "3D printing is an inspiring way to make people passionate about learning. 3D printing has already had game changing effects in the automotive, aerospace, architectural and medical fields. "In this exciting, emerging field there

are endless possibilities for learning and development, new innovations and new processes. There are new paradigms that equate to a world of careers that haven't been thought of yet. We regularly tell our students that 70% of the students born in the UK today will work in jobs that don't even exist at the moment. "The Create Education project is

how we see education benefiting the most from 3D printing. We are giving teachers free support and ideas so everyone can play an active role in the next industrial revolution." The 3D printers were launched

at Cleethorpes Academy on 26th March, with students from all three Tollbar Family of Academies members involved – Tollbar Academy, Cleethorpes Academy and Reynolds Academy – and STEM leaders atending. There were demonstrations from Ultimaker professionals, and a bank of printers available showing the process at various stages. ET
