Just what the doc ordered Simon Fry puts the Ipevo VZ-1 HD VGA/USB Dual Mode Document Camera through its paces Summary

★★★★★ RRP: £89 + VAT

Technical Specifi cations ✥ True 5.00 megapixel Cmos sensor ✥ Full autofocus lens ✥ 6x digital zoom ✥ Up to 30fps live video capture (@640x480) ✥ Max shooting area 33.0 x 24.5 cm

Ipevo claim this doc cam, “Puts the choice in your hands for teaching, demonstrations and presentations,” and theirs is no idle boast. The VZ-1 HD has the potential to be a game changer when it comes to engaging students and ensuring they understand what they are being taught. Once incorporated into tuition, the vast range of its potential uses becomes evident. By providing a live image stream to your monitor,

the camera makes the sharing of teaching resources such as textbooks, 3D objects and digital screens like tablets easy and exciting. Students in classrooms’ and lecture halls’ back rows can be taught intricate techniques such as dissection without the need to ‘crowd around’ the teacher via the full screen facility. Two focus modes ensure your image is always clear.

The Continuous mode keeps moving subjects sharp while the Single mode is perfect for the VZ-1 HD’s higher resolutions when studying static items from the size of a stamp to an A3 page. The VZ-1 HD’s 5.0 megapixel camera provides a

range of high-defi nition resolutions, delivering up to 1920 x 1080 pixels with VGA or 2592 x 1944 pixels on PC or Mac. Excellent close-up detail can be achieved using your computer’s highest resolution with Ipevo Presenter software; 6x digital zoom conveys the smallest text. The taking of snapshots allows demonstration of

how, for example, a mathematics answer is arrived at, providing clarifi cation to pupils needing it. Less confi dent pupils can use it to address their peers without standing before them.
