have iPads and 40 out of 60 rooms have Apple TV.” Denham Kite is headteacher at Victoria
Dock Primary School, which currently has 80 iPads and 30 iPods between 300 children. “We own all the iPads, they don’t go home,” explained Kite. “Anything we purchase comes out of our school budgets.” All five seminar theatres, How Do I..?,
Early Years & SEN, National Curriculum, Technology in Education, and UKTI Export, were full of activity throughout the show. Professor Brian Cox gave two engaging seminar presentations both titled 'An Interview with Brian Cox: Making Science Accessible and Exciting,' and comedian Dara O Briain gave a fantastic seminar presentation on 'An Interview With Dara O Briain: The Importance Of Maths And Science.' Frank Green CBE, School Commissioner
from the Department of Education, was also at the event to talk about free schools and academies. “Some of the major challenges are about misconceptions,” he commented.
Prof. Brian Cox “Because the initial academies were
all about failing schools, a lot of people still associate academies with failure and they are keen to avoid academy status, but it isn’t the case anymore, it is about a new self-managing, self-improving system of education.” Before taking up his current role,
Dara O Briain
Frank was Chief Executive of Leigh Academies Trust for five years which currently manages six schools in the Dartford area. One of which was the first school in the country to give every child an iPad. He added: “We can use technology to show and explain complex ideas in simple ways. There are some wonderful apps around in the edtech market, but I think these are still under- utilised by many schools.” By bringing together education leaders, government policy makers, practitioners
and more than 350 exhibitors, the Education Show provided the perfect environment to explore and discuss the latest issues, policy, resources and ideas for transforming learning from early years through to secondary education. ET
