Golf market to stop going belly-up
The ban on anchored putters was announced in 2013
D
uring a year in which both of golf’s ruling bodies and tours have confirmed the ban on anchored putters
from 2016, it was interesting to see the immediate effect this had amongst tour professionals. Having reached a peak in 2012 with an average of
14.0% using either a Long or Belly Putter, this percentage almost halved during the 2013 season to an average of 7.5%. In fact, from the start of the season up to the BMW PGA Championship when the ban was confirmed, the average was 9.2% dropping to 5.8% in the remaining events of the season.
