s the market-leading manufacturer of stainless steel conveyor belts, Wire Belt has amassed a wealth of knowledge and expertise that is routinely used to help its customers develop and improve their manufac- turing process. A good example of this joint approach was a recent project undertaken on behalf of a major UK- based manufacturing company. The company was approached by a customer who was experiencing a high rejection rate from their end-users. The cause of this was determined to be lines of cooling product becoming
stuck together while being conveyed in the later stages of production. The customer required a belt that would separate the individual lines of prod- uct while maintaining full support across the entire length of the con- veyor. A number of belting options from Wire Belt’s extensive range were discussed with the customer and a proposal made incorporating a series of custom engineered flights into the mesh of its Self Tracking Belt. This solution would allow extremely fine lane separation without compromising the flat carrying surface of the belt.

features a patented Twin-Centrepost frame that maximises strength and improves accessibility to bag hooks while simplifying construction and reducing cost. An integral flexible screw conveyor with heavy duty screw, steel outer tube and high capacity hopper feeds the filler consistently with a broad range of free- and non-free-flow bulk materials from large irregular chunks to fine powders including moist products that pack and cake with no separation of blended products. The filler is mounted on load cells that transmit weight gain signals to a controller that runs the conveyor at full feed rate and then at trickle feed rate immediately prior to stopping the conveyor once the target bag weight has been gained. The belt’s non-articulating construc- tion would prevent potential damage to the product during the cooling process. An order was placed for a single belt length to be supplied with flights in order to test the design. Once the new belt had been fitted, the cus- tomer reported a massive decrease in their rejection rate on that line. With a proven solution to the customer’s manufacturing issue Wire Belt then worked in conjunction with them to fine tune the design of the flight. The project culminated in a supply order for three complete new belts with flights plus an order to retrofit flights onto the customer’s existing stock of belting.
Bespoke solution Working closely with its customer to rectify their high rejection rate, Wire Belt demonstrated its ability to pro- vide a bespoke solution where an off- the-shelf product was not available. Ultra-heavy-duty, skid-mount- ed bulk bag filling system

Automated functions include an inflatable collar to seal the bag inlet spout, an inflator to remove creases from the bag prior to filling, automated vibratory densification/deaeration system to stabilise the bag and pneumatically- retractable bag hooks that disconnect the bag from the filler, ready for removal by forklift.
In addition, high capacity bulk bag fillers with chain conveyors and palletisers with the capacity to fill up to 20 bulk bags per hour are available.
