Global Village

GTA (GV200) Ivan Walter, chief executive

HOW HAS BUSINESS BEEN IN 2013? Good. Asian destinations are performing particularly well, helped by our Destination Asia campaign. Japan has recovered from the crisis of 2011 and room nights are up on 2012 by more than 40%. South-east Asian destinations are also popular with bookings in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam all up on last year. Intra-regional travel within the Middle East is booming and we are keeping an eye on Africa too. The rising number of international brands with hotels in the pipeline and the prosperity of many nations make the continent’s future growth potential promising.

WHAT’S COMING UP IN 2014? The US is our most popular destination, as we have boosted our product portfolio with

500 new properties across 43 states. Italy, France and the UK lead our western European destinations; Thailand is the Far East’s holiday hotspot.

WHY IS WTM IMPORTANT TO YOU? It is a global platform to show off our accommodation, tour guide and transfer services, unique experiences, excursions, attraction tickets and restaurants to be found on booking systems and via XML.

AFFORDABLE CAR HIRE (GV255) Angela Day, chief executive

HOW HAS BUSINESS BEEN IN 2013? We’re delighted with progress over the past 12 months. We have strengthened our position by signing a number of exclusive partnership arrangements with travel agency groups and have continued to invest to ensure we provide agents with the best marketing and sales support. Our new website has been very well received by the trade as it makes it even easier for them to sell car hire to their customers.

WHAT WILL YOU BE SHOUTING ABOUT AT WTM? We will be highlighting how easy it is to work with Affordable Car Hire and the support we provide through industry-leading training, marketing and an ongoing agents’ incentive programme. We will also be showcasing our new website and explaining why it is the preferred choice for so many agents looking to boost car rental revenues.

WHY IS WTM IMPORTANT TO YOU? It provides the perfect platform for us to promote our business not only to the UK travel agency trade but to international visitors who are looking at the opportunities to partner with an industry leading car rental company. One of our objectives is to sign up new overseas GSA partners.
