Responsible Tourism Day. WRTD is now in its W

sixth year and is a natural progression from WTM’s long-established Environmental Awareness Day. The movement seeks to inspire, educate and stimulate honest discussion and debate regarding the industry’s commitment to responsible travel. I am extremely proud to say today is the largest day of responsible tourism action in the world, with many events taking place all over the globe to mark WRTD. The programme starts with high-level debate on carbon pollution

in Platinum Suites 3 & 4, which includes Tui deputy chief executive Johan Lundgren, Jumeirah Group chief executive Gerald Lawless and South Africa tourism minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk at 10.30am.

“Events are taking place all over the globe to mark WRTD”

The World Responsible Tourism Awards celebrates its 10th year,

with the ceremony taking place straight after the pollution debate. This year was the first that I have been on the judging panel. I found the process really enlightening and it was wonderful to see so many great examples of responsible tourism best practice. Also, not to be missed is the Amadeus and WTM Travel Experience

Awards. The Awards are the conclusion of a year-round WTM and Amadeus partnership, which has seen a series of high-level roundtable discussions (the White Paper for these roundtables is presented before the awards). The White Paper and Awards takes place in TT185 from 3.30pm. This year WTM has also launched the Travel Tech Show at WTM, to give technology a greater focus, as its space has grown by 70% over the past three years. I hope you find today engaging and inspiring.
