ersey cricket has had an exciting 2012, but the likelihood is that 2013 will be


more exciting still with huge opportunities for Jersey’s local top sportsmen and women to shine in the summer game.


Jersey Cricket has prospered in recent years and is delighted to have been supported since 1995 by principal sponsors, NatWest, with whom an excellent working relationship has been developed.

It is quite possible that many Jersey sports followers are not aware that the Jersey National Cricket Team are currently ranked number 36 in the world – yes, we are ranked by the International Cricket Council as the 36th best National Team in the World: This is not a club side punching beyond its weight in the national league, this is a Jersey National Team (which must, under ICC regulations, comprise solely of locally born, or Jersey qualified players) who are currently ranked by the ICC as only 35 places below England, or 32 places below Australia.


Some will remember that in 2008 Jersey beat USA on their way to a

final of ICC World Division 5, in which we were only just beaten in the most nail-biting fashion by Afghanistan. Both teams were promoted to World Division 4 and many cricket aficionados will have noted that 6 of the team that so narrowly beat Jersey by just 2 wickets on that Saturday in 2008, played against England in the 2012 T20 World Cup against England in September 2012.


coach Craig Hogan has had a busy season playing some 13 matches as a squad. These have included two victories against France in Paris, two excellent matches vs MCC at home, competing in the Holland T20 International Challenge beating MCC and France eventually finishing runners up to a Netherlands ‘A’ side containing several National team players and an excellent victory over a Club Cricket Conference X1 in Watford. The Club Cricket Conference came to Jersey in September to play two matches and exact some revenge!


The 2012 match programme was created primarily to prepare the young Jersey squad to compete in World Division 6 in 2013. Jersey have been asked to potentially host this competition, and if we are chosen as hosts, not only would we have home advantage, but also Jersey would be asked to accommodate 120+ players and officials from the likes of Kuwait, Argentina and Malaysia.


Meanwhile the Jersey National team have played World Cricket league tournaments in Tanzania, Nepal and Kuala Lumpur.
