well as a legends doubles match featuring the ever-entertaining Mansour Bahrami and local champion Barry Cowan vs Peter Fleming / Peter McNamara. Te French Iranian Mansour Bahrami certainly stole the show, wowing the crowds with his unique trick shots and on court comedy. Meanwhile, many of the region’s business
leaders realised the wider business benefits of attending and partnering with the event. Tournament Director, Anders Borg said:
“Te corporate side of the event is now bigger than ever before, thanks to the support of some major regional business sponsors, especially Medicash who were our title sponsor this year. “I think it’s a true testament to the Tournament that it is now one of the most established business networking events of the summer, as well as one of the city’s most anticipated annual sporting events.” For many companies in the region, the event
provides a unique chance to network, entertain clients over first class hospitality facilities, with the added bonus of exclusive access to sporting legends. Frank McKenna, Chairman of Downtown

host of top names, including former Wimbledon champions Richard Krajicek and British tennis ace Greg Rusedski were amongst the players
on court at the Medicash Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 2012, which returned to Calderstones Park this summer from 20 – 24 June. As one of the most popular annual sporting
events in the North West, the tournament was spread over five days, starting off with a practice day for young people on, followed by the four day main tournament event. Whilst the Great British summer weather meant that there might not have been as much on-court action as many had hoped, rainfall certainly didn’t stop play for those enjoying the event’s corporate hospitality, which attracted record numbers to its VIP area this year. More than 1,500 people were wined, dined and
entertained at the event each day, as the event proved more popular than ever with sponsors and local businesses. And despite a rainy start, the weekend
brightened up and really brought out the crowds at Calderstones, culminating in a gloriously sunny finale on Sunday. South African number one seed Kevin
Anderson won the men’s final after beating his opponent Lukas Lacko in an exciting three set match on centre court. His win followed a victory for 15 year old Belinda Bencic from Switzerland, who beat Sachia Vickery of the United States in the Ladies Finals. Te win was her first senior title in Great Britain, leaving tennis fans in no doubt that this young star is one to watch. Other highlights included a centre court match between Greg Rusedski vs Anders Jarryd, as
Liverpool in Business said: “Te Liverpool International is now one of the region’s most popular annual sporting events, and is second only to Aintree’s Grand National in terms of the amount of additional revenue it draws to our city’s visitor economy – so we feel it’s a really important event to support and be a part of.” Richard Kenyon, Managing Director of the marketing communications firm Kenyon Fraser, said: “Taking a table and entertaining at the tennis has become one of the must-have corporate hospitality events in the city – people are thrilled to be invited along, and it’s become a real who’s who of the city’s business scene. It’s a chance to mix work with pleasure, and combined with a bit of good weather, it’s a fantastic way to spend the day.” For others, like Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust, and this year’s title sponsors Medicash, an association with the tournament is a chance to promote their own health messages about the benefits of participation in sport and having an active lifestyle. Bernie Cuthel, chief executive of LCH, said:
“We partnered with the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament this year because its ethos promoting physical activity, health and wellbeing amongst our local communities is very similar to our own. We were extremely proud to sponsor and be involved in such an exceptional event – especially during this important Olympic year.” Phil Harris, Managing Director of
Waterfront Magazines said: “Tis is our fourth year as media partners with the International Liverpool Tennis Tournament and it is fantastic to see the support from local businesses and the council for one of the most prestigious events in the North West.”
