Connecting visitors 24/7

Connected World By Andy Stout

While change is always considered a constant in the electronic entertainment industry, few would argue that the past few years have been more tumultuous than most. Broadcast and film technology has melded with IT technologies to create digital workflows, and not only new ways and business models for content creation, but ones for content consumption too. The IBC Connected World which occupies Hall 14 is where IBC’s attendees can make sense of the very latest developments and take a glimpse into the future of where the new connectivity is heading. It features the very latest in mobile TV, 3G and 4G services as consumers start to increasingly demand 24/7 connectivity, and showcases the pioneering applications and technologies that are driving content over-the-top into the home.

It also delves further into the new technology with a special Demonstration Area and a programme of short

presentations and

demonstrations that allows visitors and exhibitors to make sense of the new developments in context. This year, these sessions also include a series of hour-long Round Table Briefings, which will take place each lunchtime, and feature a panel of experts and specialists debating the issues and answering questions from the showfloor. The Round Table briefings are coupled with

accompanying 15-minute long product demonstrations and have been arranged into broad topic groupings to help visitors organise their diaries efficiently. Subjects to be covered include: on Friday, Connected TV (again set to be one of the major talking points of the show); on Saturday. IPTV & OTT TV; on Sunday New Media Platforms, 3DTV, and Displays; and on Monday the Connected Home and Home Networks, and New Markets.

A detailed schedule will be available on the IBC website and will also be displayed on the Information Screens in the IBC Connected World.

Remember that every single IBC attendee is not only free to tour the 14 packed exhibition halls, but also invited to attend the IBC Awards Ceremony and exclusive screenings in the IBC Big Screen, view special demonstrations within the IBC Connected World, the Future Zone and the Workflow Solutions Village, and attend dedicated free conference sessions with the Industry Insights stream and its What Caught My Eye sessions. For the ultimate IBC

experience, choose the Gold Pass. Membership of the Gold Pass community at IBC is an exclusive and unique

opportunity to network with your peers. You can continue the debate and share ideas in a calm and comfortable environment. This exclusive pass gives you full access to every conference session – in reserved seating where available – but also access to the dedicated Gold Pass Lounge with complimentary refreshments and lunch, free Wi-Fi, meeting rooms and a concierge service. Other conference passes are of course available, including

the Silver Pass to access all conference sessions and the Bronze Pass for your choice of five sessions.

Full details and pricing is on the IBC website, where you can register online. Exhibitors benefit from a 30% discount on standard prices, and to encourage students they receive an 80% discount (excluding the Gold Pass). Remember, though, that the best deals are only available before 15 August. To register now visit www.ibc.org/register

IBC on air and online

Start your day and set your agenda with IBC TV News. This lively magazine programme, produced entirely on site, is available in virtually all the hotels and residences in the Amsterdam area, thanks to the co-operation of the local cable network. Catch it between 7:00 and 9:00, on Friday 7 and Tuesday 11 September.

This year the production base is part of the new Workflow Solutions Village in Hall 9. From here, professional reporters and crews cover the show,

editing stories and compiling the programme using a specially installed file-based infrastructure built on EVS technology. Each day the teams cover hot topics in the industry, interviewing key vendors and many of the interesting

personalities taking part in the conference. Some of these interviews form part of the live webcasts which are streamed twice a day. As well as the daily 20 minute programme broadcast each morning, there is much more content on the website, www.ibctvnews.com. This has special features and extended versions of important interviews. This site is already up and running with preview content as well as an archive of shows from previous IBCs.
