Games Showcase Warrior Spirit

T

he All-Marine Warrior Games team won the Chairman’s Cup for the third year in a row at this

year’s Warrior Games. The games, held May 1-5 at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., showcased wounded, ill, and injured servicemembers from all service branches. For the athletes who competed, the

Warrior Games were not just about med- als. They were an opportunity for current and former servicemembers to prove their renewed physical ability and service grit, having incorporated athletic training into their overall transition and recovery.

“For me, the [Warrior Games] embody the enduring resilience of our profession, because your commitment to teamwork and determination to persevere at these games are the very same qualities that led you to serve your nation and make our mil- itary great,” said Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, USA, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at the opening ceremony. “These qualities don’t go away. You have the desire to be part of something larger than yourself ... that is fulfilled in these games.” The Warrior Games are hosted by the

U.S. Olympic Committee Paralympic Mili- tary and Veteran Program.
