Your military instincts would probably tell you that this is the kind of risk you simply can’t ignore. Preparing for the unexpected, and having better protection against the financial consequences, can be vital.


Fortunately there is an affordable solution — the MOAA-endorsed Group Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance Plan (MOAA Accident Plan). As an eligible MOAA member, you are guaranteed acceptance for up to $500,000 in accident protection for you and your family. That means no health questions or medical exams are ever required.

$500,000 benefit amount


The MOAA Accident Plan is available at economical group rates — negotiated with the buying power of more than 370,000 members. It can be an important addition to your overall insurance protection, providing your family with an extra measure of security. Here’s a look at some of the key features and benefits:


A choice of three benefit amounts — Choose a Member Principal Sum of $500,000, $250,000 or $150,000. Whether you fall victim to a covered fatal accident in a motor vehicle, on the job, while traveling, or at home, the MOAA Accident Plan can pay up to $500,000 to help your loved ones through a difficult time. Benefits will be payable for an injury directly or independently caused by a covered accident while coverage is in force for you,


Acceptance is guaranteed for you and your family — As a member of MOAA under age 70, you cannot be turned down for this coverage — regardless of driving history or health conditions. Coverage is also guaranteed to your lawful spouse and your eligible children. No medical exam or health questions are required. In order for your spouse to be eligible, he/she must also be under age 70. Eligible children are those unmarried children, dependent on you for support, who are under age 19, or 26 if a full-time student. This plan is available to U.S. residents, except VT, WA and territories.


Additional benefits for military travel — An additional benefit of up to $150,000 will be paid if the insured suffers a covered loss while riding as a passenger in a military transport aircraft operated by Air Mobility Command while serving in the Reserves or if recalled to active duty service. The benefit payable is the lesser of the Principal Sum or $150,000.


Additional benefits for use of seatbelt and airbag — Up to $50,000 (or 50% of the Principal Sum) is payable if the insured is involved in an automobile accident in which he/she was properly wearing a seat belt and dies within 365 days as a result of that accident. The Certificate of Insurance will provide certain limitations on this benefit. PLUS, up to an additional $25,000 (not to exceed 10% of the Principal Sum) if the Seat Belt Benefit is payable and the vehicle involved was equipped with a properly functioning air bag.

• DOUBLE Benefits (up to an additional $500,000) are payable if the insured person dies or suffers any covered loss as a passenger on an airplane, bus, taxi, subway, cruise ship, ferry, or other licensed and registered common carrier.


• UP TO $10,000 EDUCATION BENEFIT is payable if there are surviving injured dependents who are enrolled, or enroll within 365 days of the member’s death, in an institution of higher learning. The benefit payable will equal the actual cost of tuition up to the lesser of: 2% of the Member’s Principal Sum, or; $2,500 for children, $4,000 for spouse. The benefit is payable annually for up to four years as long as the dependent remains a student. If no insured dependent qualifies, 2% of the Member’s Principal Sum is payable.


• UP TO $2,500 DAY CARE BENEFIT to help your spouse cover the expense of day care for your dependent children under age 13 and enrolled in a Day Care Program on the date of your covered loss. Pays the lesser of 5% or your base Principal Sum (up to $2,500) or the actual amount of day care costs for a year. The benefit is payable each year per child who qualifies, and no more than four such benefits are payable per child.


• CIVIL AIRCRAFT BENEFIT 25% of the Principal Sum is payable when the insured member suffers a covered loss while acting as a pilot or crew member of a civil aircraft, provided he or she holds a current valid certificate of competency authorizing performance of a pilot’s duties and has logged at least 1,000 flight hours as pilot in command. (See exclusions and limitations for certain conditions.)
