The girls have always loved ponies & horses

Mr Patterson sold them a horsebox 5 years ago or they would never have discovered it. They are not only clients of Sam and Julian’s, but feel part of the family down there.

Hayley says, on the Royal

International, “For me RIHS is one of my favourite shows of the year. The relaxed atmosphere and beautiful rings give you the best chance of showing your horse off to the best of its abilities. RIHS has been a very lucky show for me over the years - having been lucky enough to win on 7 occasions. This is my last year in BSPS intermediate classes so I hope to put in a good performance. I am also hoping Bean will put in another good performance in the coloureds, having finished in the top 2 for the past 4 years.”

Becky agrees, “I love the Royal International, it provides the perfect setting

to merit the qualification. I am excited to take Bill back this year, he is looking great and we are having a really strong season. I feel we have really developed a strong partnership of trust and respect this year, which has fed through to our performance. He loves to show off in a big ring, especially when it comes to the gallop and Hickstead certainly provides this. I have won the Horse of the Year Show, but I am very hungry to win the International.”

Becky and Hayley told us what it is that keeps them

motivated. “It is quite simply the sheer love of doing it. Showing has been such a big part of both of our lives for so long, we have grown up in the environment, meeting so many interesting people along the way and making many life-long friends and memories. We both have the same passion to win and the

determination to succeed as we did 16 years ago coming across the water.

As we grow older it is lovely to have a common interest which brings us together, often our face-to-face catch-ups are scheduled on show dates. It also provides a great outdoor escape from our very hectic

lifestyles.”

What has the future in store for the Patterson girls? “One thing is certain, horses will

always be a part of our lives. Having had a very successful career in the pony world, the plan is now to continue into the horse world and try to replicate some of our successes. Last year we both successfully ‘dipped our toes in the water’ with our intermediates in the hack and riding horse classes, so this is something we hope to make more of later this season.”
