Animal communicator and horseman, Patrick Kempe (62), with his 12-year- old Portuguese-bred Lusitano,Tetua, are causing a sensation again at shows with their skilful and entertaining demonstrations. Troubled by back and joint pain, his chance call to Ruggles & Stopitall has proved perfect timing.
As part of his demonstration, and in Portuguese national costume, he can once again balance on Tetua’s back whilst wielding a heavy flag pole with no fewer than 4 flags flying from it!
Said Patrick: “The flag-flying idea came from seeing those
tiny, flappy flags flying from cars during the 2006 Football World Cup. I thought I could go one better and fly one from my horse and it just grew from one flag to two – English and Portuguese - and now we can handle four large flags in comfort whilst cantering and cartwheeling the flags at the same time. A highlight this year is a demonstration to commemorate HM the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. However four flags and a pole are pretty heavy and add up to a total area of 60 square feet of material – especially challenging in windy weather! Tetua is an amazing horse and has taken to it like a
duck to water.”
