KAREN REEVES BA (HONS) DANCE EDUCATION
What was your background before starting your studies with the RAD? I began dancing at the age of 4 and trained in ballet, tap, modern, contemporary and jazz. I continued my tuition at Northern Ballet School where I enhanced my technical abilities and gained my teaching qualifications. Since I stopped dancing I have focused my skills on teaching and passing my knowledge on to others.
What areas of the programme do you enjoy most and find most useful? I have found the diversity of the programme not only enjoyable, but in many cases relevant to the field in which I am looking to work, therefore enhancing my learning and ultimately developing my teaching skills. I have particularly enjoyed studying the theories behind how children learn and how to develop a curriculum, both of which will be of use in the future.
Would you recommend this programme to others? The BA (Hons) Dance Education programme is one that I would definitely recommend as it is an in-depth programme that gives the basis to branch out in a variety of directions. Fitting in studying around a family is possible, as well as a rewarding and challenging experience.
What do you hope to do once you graduate? When I graduate from the programme I hope to assist schools in both the public and private sector to develop dance in their curriculum, as well as improving inter-school dance events.
Are you planning any further study? In the future I am considering undertaking a Masters degree.
