MADDI SIMPSON CERTIFICATE IN BALLET TEACHING STUDIES
What was your background before starting your studies with the RAD? Although I was only eighteen when I enrolled on the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies programme I had already been assisting at my local ballet school for some time and knew that teaching ballet was something I wanted to do. I really respected and admired the teachers and wanted to gain their level of knowledge so I could impart it to other students, and inspire them the way my teachers inspired me.
As a distance learner, how do you combine your work/ study commitments? As I now work at the ballet school, I can study in the mornings then assist and take my own classes in the afternoons. I enjoy this easy balance because it means I have the opportunity to discuss my work with qualified professionals whilst still improving my own ballet skills.
What areas of the programme do you enjoy most/find most useful? The Intensive Study Period is particularly valuable because it gives me the chance to speak face to face with my tutor and to learn in a practical sense. I also really enjoy getting the chance to meet other people on my programme; our normal interaction is only through the forums and it’s lovely to put faces to names.
What do you hope to do once you graduate? Once I graduate I hope to teach the RAD syllabus in a school abroad. The RAD is so widespread that there are hundreds of opportunities all over the world, which is what really attracted me to the programme.
