Southeastern Synod members gath- ered Sept. 24 to consider new direc- tions for the Lutheran Theological Center in Atlanta, especially in light of the Living Into the Future Together (LIFT) study that looked at options for the ELCA’s future in terms of its identity, changes in its environment and its call to God’s mission. Located on the campus of the Interdenomina-


tional Theological Center in Atlanta, LTCA, a program of Lutheran Theo- logical Southern Seminary, Colum- bia, S.C., gives Lutherans in the greater Atlanta area access to the sem- inary and the experience of traditional African-American theological con- texts. “At the Sept. 24 event, we did a gifts assessment, imagining how the center could serve not only the South- eastern Synod, but Region 9 and the nation, as a place for training leaders for urban ministry,” said Everett Fla- nigan, the synod’s director of evan- gelical mission. “The next step will be formulating a plan for the governance of the center.” Meanwhile, the center is partnering with the synod to offer multicultural and urban experiences, including an Afrocentric Reforma- tion worship service with dance and drums Oct. 27 on its Atlanta campus,
