Histori- cally, many children of pastors also prepared for similar vocations. If that is no longer true, we need to explore why the children of church leaders are heading into other vocations.” Lull also emphasizes the impor-


tance of pastors knowing their young people by name.


Her home congregation is St. John Lutheran in Fremont, Ohio, which has nurtured dozens of people to ministry. Clearly, the conditions are ripe for


growing leaders in many congrega- tions. From an informal poll on Face- book, stories emerged from Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, North Dakota,


Ohio and Pennsylvania. The poll also revealed something else: passion— for one’s home congregation and for service and ministry ahead. 
